I think he was only a one hit wonder to those of us who weren't really listening to much to his other music.We just all really loved that one song.
It would be almost as bad as saying BB was a one hit wonder because of "the thrill is gone". And that would be VERY wrong.
I don't think he got all of these awards for having one hit.

The guy was a great performer. He toured for years, and was well remembered as a good act, respected by his fellow singers.
Now...
Name the hits he had that were anywhere top of the charts. Any charts.
He had one big hit. That son is just a down home fact but does not take anything away from his place as a great act.
