Laughing Laughing Laughing .

And I'm still a bit confussed about what a pun really is. Your post above is a hoot, but I'm wondering if it's a pun? (I may fall in tht category of "if I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand).

Sometime literal definitions only muddy the waters, so it's probably not important any, but:

pun 1 |pən| nouna joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings: the pigs were a squeal (if you'll forgive the pun).verb (puns, punning, punned) [ no obj. ] make a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word: his first puzzle punned on composers, with answers like “Handel with care” and “Haydn go seek” | (as adj. punning) :  a punning riddle.

I'd say that's definitely a pun   Big Grin

Yeah it fits the definition Wonky posted PERFECTLY exploiting the different possible meanings of a word

a tack  attack
Where's the confusion Wonky?

If that is racist so is every comedian that was ever born. Have you ever seen Jerry Lewis do his Chinese guy shtick?

You could say it's in bad taste but racist?

Here's what you do. Print the photo and show it to one of your Asian friends and ask them. No Asian friends? Try the grocery store. You may be surprised....

Where did I say that no Asian would have a problem with it? Making fun of someones voice or accent doesn't have to be racist.

So what would be a better word for it then?

I didn't say that you said that no Asian would have a problem.  Razz I said YOU are not as good of judge of what's racist as (in the case of this photo) an Asian would be.

Remember when Blazing Saddles showed us all the absurdity of racism through humor? Isn't it a sad world, knowing that movie could NEVER be made now, because of people like Valuesize and their "enlightened" PC bullshit?

Racially insensitive maybe, but not overtly racist. Comedians still jump on this kind of stuff all in the time for humorous affect.

I recall when an airliner crashed in San Francisco and an intern provided the names of the airline crew to news stations. Pretty damn funny unless you are Chinese. The pilot and crew were Korean so the names didn't really make sense, but people still found it funny.

I already said bad taste. I'm just judging what is racist by the definition of racist.

rac·ist

ˈrāsəst/
noun
noun: racist; plural noun: racists
1.
a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.

Making fun of how someone sounds isn't being a racist. That doesn't sound to me like a person thinks HIS race is superior.
It sounds to me like they think it's funny.

There is nothing I can say to make you understand if you think it absurd. You can either join us with eyes wide open into a better future or keep your blinders on and "good old boys" racists "humor."

You say enlightened as if it is a bad thing. I went through much of my life thinking like you. (minus the all Muslims are bad)  Smiling  I'm glad I've been blessed with friends of many different nationalities that thankfully taught me to see these seemingly simple humor from another viewpoint.

And since you have trouble understanding, I should point out that if it was JUST this little bit of off color humor it would probably deserve a pass, but when added to every other slight many non-whites deal with every day, it no longer gets one.

The PC police changed the definition of racism. Of course still perfectly OK to make jokes about crackers and honkies though.

No it's not. If you believe that it shows how you've allowed yourself to stagnate with views from a time gone by. It doesn't surprise me if you've spent most of your years in the Rogue Valley. I don't mean that as a dig, you just aren't exposed to much of any other cultures in Oregon, especially down there.

BTW, when was the last time you heard a cracker or honky joke?  Laughing

Anywhere north of southern Oregon isn't any different. Portland is one of the whitest city's in the country. If you mean you get more culture further north you mean the homeless and drug addicts are different there than here? Of course if you go to Gresham you get culture and diversity, the same type as east Los Angeles and Compton. Why don't any of you "diversity" loving social justice warriors like west Medford? There is more culture and diversity there than any other area south of Eugene. Bloods, crops, surenos, nortenos, isn't that culture and diversity? Just ask Tia it's all there.
