So

I forget where the first time I heard about the over use of the word "SO". This article pretty much denies that it is over used. And supposedly after you are told this you simply notice it more.
But I disagree. I challenge anyone here to watch the TV show Shark tank. For some reason it seems like all the people on the show with their money making ideas start off their pitch with "so".
And keep doing it the entire time.

So, What's The Big Deal With Starting A Sentence With 'So'?

So, why the recent hue and cry about those sentences beginning with "so"? In part, you could blame the quirk of perception I think of as the Andy Rooney effect, where you suddenly become keenly aware of a common word that's always been part of the conversational wallpaper.

This isn't true in IMO. It think it's a new millennium college educated thing. That's why so many on Shark talk talk that way.
They are all young educated entrepreneurs

While Bolden said “so” appears less frequently before answers, the journalist Michael Lewis noticed its prevalence when exploring Silicon Valley for his 2001 book The New Thing, the New York Times reported. He claims programmers, especially of the Microsoft variety, started, or at least popularized, beginning answers with “so.” Maybe that’s where Zuckerberg learned it.

So, my real reply now. (see what I did there?)

You probably will now LOL.

Yes people who use the Like" word too often drive judge Judy crazy. I've seen her ask people if they could refrain from saying LIKE so much.
And they can't Laughing It's the same with "basically".

I overuse the word "so" a lot. I also overuse the word "well." I am aware of it and when I find myself doing it, I try to rephrase my words.

So, is the rephrasing working?

So did I, for what it's worth, at the end of the day. Well, for all intents and purposes, anyways.

Oh yeah LOL.. saying "at the end of the day" should be a crime. Maybe a misdemeanor but "it is what it is" ? That has to be the stupidest comment of the 21st century. And should be a felony.

anyways. That annoys me too.

arrghh, I hear "it is what it is" at least once a day. The hell of it is, when you hear something so often you start saying it yourself. I find myself needing to make a conscience effort to fight the urge to say it sometimes. So instead I say "buh dee badee badee, that's all folks" and walk out. (not really Wink )

So anyways, yea that sucks

I watched Judge Mileano Yesterday. The complainant, a young college student started of every other sentence with SO.
And to make it worse she would say       So, um OK... when I was........

I think this phenomenon is a college disease. Most of the people on Shark tank are fresh out of college.

I like "It is what it is."  Sometimes it's the only thing you can say about something.

Baloney. People have been saying something else since the dawn of time right up to 2006 when this ignorant comment started getting popular.
BTW I made up the 2006 number LOL

I didn't mean literally. And I don't think it's an "ignorant" comment.  I just think it fits sometimes.

Yeah I get it buy when it fits is overshadowed from when it so often doesn't.

I suppose saying "that's the way the cookie crumbles" at one time annoyed people. Razz
