Who Was the First President You Voted For? - MarkM - 01-30-2013

I'll bet nobody voted for the guy I did.

Nice. My first choice was even more radical.

Abbie Hoffman or Jerry Rubin didn't run, did they? Big Grin

Who was the first presidential candidate you voted for???

RE: Who Was the First President You Voted For? - MarkM - 01-30-2013

I'm not certain but I don't think Abbie or Jerry ever officially ran for prez.

Not so fast, let's see if anyone else wants to play. I'll give you a clue: You're looking at the wrong end of the spectrum, and it's someone who is still in the news today. Oops! That was two clues. I've said too much!

Oh no...and his wife is still alive, right? Laughing

George H. Bush

Y'all will never believe this. Jimmy Carter.

Then I grew up.

Not even close, but for those who remember his presidential runs isn't it curious what a conservative Democrat he was then. Especially Tipper.

I can't remember your age now, but I'll guess the libertarian candidate. I voted for several of those.

Hmmm. Don't know. His VP candidate is actually the one with the high contemporary profile.

You would be correct. The year was 1980. The candidate was Ed Clark. His VP?

David Koch.

Yes, that David Koch.

Like a few others, I grew up. But I do understand the appeal of Ron Paul and Ayn Rand among young, inquiring, earnest minds.

The first election I remember much about was 1984. Reagan was up for re-election, Jackson made a splash, Mondale had a female running mate, and Hart had scandals.

I couldn't vote until Clinton was up for re-election, and given what I had seen of Reagan, Bush, and Clinton, and what I had seen of the parties, I chose to vote for the person I felt was most likely to be elected who wasn't a Republican.

I'd love to see more diversity in the electable political parties...

I don't care who you are, that there is funny.
David Koch.
Knock me over with a feather!!!

Makes me grin too.Rolling Eyes

After seeing as how only a small coalition of 19 yr olds, hippies, and the super-rich would vote for him, Koch declared himself unelectable and became a lobbyist. You know the rest.

Given that, I kinda feel like my vote, misguided as it was, was really for the best. Oh well, there I go again. Reagan won anyway, dammit.

Many of us experienced some form of mis-guided youth combined with copious amounts of enthusiasm.

Some of us got past that. Cool

I think you're a good egg from what I can see. Big Grin

George McGovern, by absentee ballot while I was in basic training.
The drill sergeants made fun of me.

RE: Who Was the First President You Voted For? - Snowlover - 01-31-2013

I took a politics class in Jr High and George McGovern was my choice.

The first election that I was old enough to participate in was Carter vs Reagan. I voted for Reagan.
