Not backpedaling. I know you have "people of color" in your family. As I posted it I was recalling your late night stirring the pot antics. Believe as you will....

VS...Need your advice: I come from a long line of redneck hillbillies. Are we "people of color"?

Isn't saying redneck hillbilly redundant? I don't not hardly ever say that.

Colorful people, not quite the same as people of color. Sometimes.   Big Grin

It's a shame when sound science, not coming from a scientist with an agenda, but one actually studying his field, has to see his research maligned by those WITH an agenda.

This is a fascinating article about the cycles of the sun, and how much we DON'T know yet, but are learning.

Interesting.  Y'all responding to PAST postings, instead of the one in front of you?

Quote: If correct, this new discovery means that future solar cycles and variations in the Sun’s activity can be predicted more accurately.

Big If.

Quote:Of course things are not the same as they were in the 17th century – we have a lot more greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. And it will be interesting to see how the terrestrial and the solar influences play out.

Greenhouse gas will win.

Quote:However, Zharkova ends with a word of warning: not about the cold but about humanity's attitude toward the environment during the minimum. We must not ignore the effects of global warming and assume that it isn't happening. “The Sun buys us time to stop these carbon emissions,” Zharkova says. The next minimum might give the Earth a chance to reduce adverse effects from global warming.

Why is it interesting that people don't respond to a post from a climate change denier.

I mean WTF do you expect when you lead in with a comment that shows you think 90+ percent of all scientists have an "AGENDA"

What would anyone want to look at your link after reading such an absurd ridiculous theory?

I think you need to read Zharkova's report, not some WTF is up with that, restating Zharkova report.

Zharkova himself states

I looked at it. I didn't think there was anything there. It basically said someone discovered there was two sources of magnetic fields in the sun not just one. Then it leaps to making some pretty well defined predictions of future sun activity and earth climate changes. Either they left out a TON of stuff or they're quacks. From just the article, there's no way to judge which.

Yeah, I saw that one too. It's still pretty anorexic on any detail.

Quote:WATERTOWN, S.D. -
Watertown saw its heaviest rainfall for August 11 on Thursday night.
More from KDLT

The 3.90 inches of rain reported by the airport smashed the daily rainfall record, which was 1.66 set in 1974.
Within an hour, it rained three and a half inches.

Quote:Calloway County, KY -
Millions of dollars won't be going into your community this year because of record rainfall in July that destroyed tobacco crops. A state climatologist recorded the most rain in 11 counties, including a few in our area.
Crittenden County had almost 15.87 inches of rain. Marshall County received 16.25 inches of rain, while Calloway County had more than 17 inches of rain.

The local weather thread is closed. I guess we can use this topic to talk about non record breaking weather if Wonky allows it.  Rolling Eyes

I just wanted to say it looks like Thursday and Friday is going to be the hottest days of the year so far. 107 & 108 degrees are forcasted for those days. Try to stay cool and don't leave your dog in the car if you go shopping. Leave your pooch at home.

If I don't bring the dog, whose going to watch the kid while I'm in the store? Twitch

July was so pleasant I thought we might get away with it. Not having the blistering weather that is. It does seem a little better in August because the nights are slightly longer.

Is there any smoke from fires this year?
