Quote:The National Weather Service (NOAA) buoys recorded waves from 20 to 30-plus feet between Cape San Martin to the south and Point Arena to the north.

Monterey Bay recorded the largest waves it has seen in 30 years with the swell reaching 34.12 feet at one point. The previous record was 32.8 feet in 2008.

Quote:A set of atmospheric rivers that brought heavy rains and floods to California also dumped a record amount of snow on Mammoth Mountain in January — 20½ feet, the most in the resort town’s history, local tourist officials announced.

Temperatures at Camp Mabry in Central Austin reached 84 degrees, three degrees above the previous record set in 2013.

Quote:While everyone might not be fans of the record snow this winter, a group of mushers and their dogs are especially excited as they prep for this year's Race to the Sky.
"The snow is definitely cooperating," said Pam Beckstrom, organizer for the Race to the Sky. More powder is predicted for next week as well. "I'm really excited about that."
The amount of snow also means an event that has been halted for at least the last three years -- the commemorative run at Camp Rimini -- can taken place in 2017.

Quote:The last weather event that impacted Hilo brought a record amount of rain to the Hamakua coast and through the saddle. The Hilo International Airport rain gauge recorded 8.72 inches over a 24 hour period on January 24th.

This breaks the old record of 4.29 inches set in 1972 and is much higher than average. The average amount of rainfall for this time of year is 0.32 inches.

At my house (in Medford) it's in the low 40's, some clouds but no rain, no wind, visibility is good, air quality fair, and humidy just about right.

Just thought you might want to know. I regret I don't have a graph to illustrate it.

The hell with a silly race. A lot of people depend on dog sleds OR snow mobiles just to get around. To hunt to trap. Plus they relay on the rivers freezing.

Climate change can or will pit the hurts to those people more than us.

Quote:Intense heat grips eastern Australia

Total fire bans issued as parts of Australia swelter in their hottest January on record.

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/01/intense-heat-grips-eastern-australia-170131100818731.html
Quote:Eastern Australia is in the grip of an intense heatwave which has seen temperature records broken in many parts. Daytime highs have soared into the mid-40s Celsius in parts, leading to fire bans across the country's southeast.
As is often the case, the highest temperatures have been across the interior. The town of Moomba, in the northeast of South Australia, had a top temperature of 45C on Monday. That is still well short of the January record of 49.6C
Meanwhile, the town of Moruya, in southeastern New South Wales, had a high of 43C. The town is located around 300 kilometres to the south of Sydney.
Sydney has been sweltering for some time now and the city's Observatory Hill, has recorded nine days where temperatures have reached 35C and above, equalling the previous record set in the summer of 1895/96.
In terms of the average maximum, minimum and mean temperatures, this month goes down as Sydney's warmest January ever recorded.

Quote:Record setting rains hit Western Oregon over the weekend sparking local flooding in Linn and Benton counties, but the National Weather Service forecasts predict that the worst is past.

Quote:You could have taken more than 2,700 baths using the water collected from just one acre of land in Newport after Sunday's record rainfall, in theory of course.
Records, some more than a century old, were shattered in the region after a strong system wreaked havoc in some areas, causing landslides and road closures throughout the state. The National Weather Service in Portland released rainfall amounts for northwest areas of the state and southwest Washington.
Sunday marked the wettest Feb. 5 in Newport after 4.44 inches dropped. That shattered the 119-year-old record of 2.4 inches set in 1898. Sunday also broke the single-day record for the month in Newport. That was Feb. 8, 1899, after 4 inches fell.

RE: Record Breaking Weather - chuck white - 02-13-2017

Quote:At least three significant records were broken on Friday.
  • Sydney Airport reported its warmest February temperature at 109.2 degrees Fahrenheit. The previous February record was 108.7 degrees in 1980.
  • The airport in Adelaide, South Australia, had its third day in a row of temperatures above 104 degrees, which is significant since it’s 40 degrees Celsius. Consecutive heat like this hasn’t happened since 1914 in that location — what is usually the colder, southern part of Australia.
  • Mildura, Victoria, next to the border of New South Wales, reached 114.8 degrees (46 Celsius) for the second day in a row, which is also something that has never happened at that airport.

Actually, the record snowfall was 83/84.
If it really makes any difference.
It doesn't.

No but your constant complaining because you don't approve of this thread isn't much different. I imagine if you peed on my shoes it would only be once.
