RE: Record Breaking Weather - chuck white - 03-06-2017

Quote:A record March snow storm dropped almost two inches of snow on the Grants Pass weather reporting station with much heavier amounts reported from the Illinois Valley areas.

The snows, which began Friday night in the midst of a National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning, left the valley floor under 1.88 inches of snow through 7 a.m. Monday morning with snow continuing to fall.

The Friday night snowfall set a new record at .16 of one inch of the white stuff compared to a trace since records have been kept. Monday’s snow fall will also be a record because no snowfall has ever been reported for Grants Pass on March 6th.

Quote:There have been 3,146 record highs set for the month-to-date compared to only 27 record lows, ensuring February will go down as the 27th month in a row with more highs than lows. The astonishing 116-to-1 ratio of highs to lows would easily set a record for the most lopsided monthly ratio in history. There have also been 248 monthly record highs and no monthly record lows.

RE: Record Breaking Weather - chuck white - 03-21-2017

Quote: Global temperatures set yet another record last year and the world witnessed exceptionally low sea ice, and unabated sea level rise and ocean heat, the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said today, warning that the extreme weather and climate conditions have continued into 2017.

According to the agency’s Statement on the State of the Global Climate in 2016, while global temperatures hit a remarkable 1.1 degree-Celsius above the pre-industrial period, global sea-level touch record highs and the planet’s sea-ice coverage dropped more than four million square kilometres below average in November – an unprecedented anomaly for that month.

RE: Record Breaking Weather - tvguy - 04-07-2017

Two years ago, maybe three I got sick of hearing my neighbors metal roof flop around in the wind. His shed is only about six feet from my fence. So I took two tires and threw them each on to his roof. I was pretty proud of my self because it wasn't easy to toss a tire that far.And they landed right where I wanted.
Anyway the tires weighted the roof down and problems solved.

So last year I see my neighbor and some friend of his with a ladder leaned on his shed. They were eying the tires curiously.
So I told him why they were there and to just toss them back in to my yard when ever you fix the roof.
So he took the tires off and never did anything to his roof and it's worse now, even louder.WTF?
So all night long CRASH.... CRASH.....CRASH...

My access to the internet has just been restored. I forgot how precise one needs to be around here.  Rolling Eyes

How one of the biggest, untrimmed oak trees on the planet survived the winds we had on our side of the mountain really surprised me. I guess the lack of leaves or snow saved this lawsuit waiting to happen from claiming property or even life.

He is young and has workers plus he apparently doesn't want the roof removed. He's a good guy and all I need to do is talk to him and he would screw the loose tin down.
I only brought it up because I had to listen to it banging and crashing all night and the oddness. Like Why the hell he took the tires off in the first place if he was not going to remove OR fix the roof???

Quote:Ongoing April showers and a frost advisory unusual for this time of year challenged weather-weary Sonoma County residents after a potent one-two punch Friday brought winds, toppled trees, knocked out power and added to the record rainfall.

Almost 2.5 inches fell at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport Santa Rosa over a 24-hour period that ended at 5 p.m. Friday, extending the new record to 58.15 inches for the season and eclipsing the previous high mark of 55.68 inches in 1983.

RE: Record Breaking Weather - chuck white - 04-15-2017

Quote:As the Bay Area braces for yet another storm in the next few days, northern Sierra Nevada set a new all-time record for rainfall Thursday.

“We didn’t just beat the record,” said Craig Shoemaker a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. “We shattered it.”
Topping 89.7 inches, the new record beat the old one of 88.5, set in 1982-83, by a long and very wet shot. Data from the so-called Northern Sierra index — eight stations spread from Mt. Shasta near the Oregon border to Pacific House between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe — have been monitored continuously since 1920.

Quote:Winter made a comeback more than a month into spring, dropping a record 4 inches of snow in Grand Forks by 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The high moisture content of the big flakes made for a blanket of snow that smashed the previous snowfall record for the date, set in 1966, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Barrett.
"It's as fluffy as you're ever going to get," he said.
