But maybe our girl Tia is a big fan of NEIL Diamond too? Or just a fan of diamonds in general. But not a fan of Selma Diamond. (Forget it TVg...you are just a kid and wouldn't remember Selma Diamond) We do know "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend". And somehow it was suggested Neil Young was the giver of billions of dollars when in fact in a previous post I think the culprit was thought to be Geroge Soros. Whatever. I'm not a fan of diamonds. Much rather have a good burrito. RE: Music - Wonky3 - 12-04-2016 I don't have fond memories of the 80's. (In fact, have few memories of the 80's) But Juice Newton BROUGHT it! There is a point in this cut where she reaches a note seldom achieved by all but the angles. Country? I dunno. Whatever: Juice you helped us through the 80's. RE: Music - Valuesize - 12-04-2016 Well if we're going back to the 80's, I think this is a particularly nice version of this song. You got somethin' there. I better check: She could be kin. Music - Wonky3 - 12-07-2016 Kris Kristofferson was watching "Grapes of Wrath" (again) and moved by a little scene in a roadside cafe. He wrote a "little" song about it. It's not great, will not be long remembered, but it moved me because of of it's humble and human qualities. RE: Music - Valuesize - 12-10-2016 Anyone watching The Highwaymen on PBS? It's on until 11 pm. I think a lot the newer stuff is polluted phony ass garbage. But I love Waylon , Willie, Cash and Christopherson somewhat Also Haggard,George Jones, Roy Clark. Marty Robbins RE: Music - Big Rock - 12-14-2016 RE: Music - Wonky3 - 12-14-2016 (12-14-2016, 06:33 PM)Big Rock Wrote: I reget that I didn't listen to his stuff (or him) during his life. I do listen to SOME country, so will slide into my playlists. If anyone has a couple you feel are his "gems", I'd appreciate the titles. RE: Music - Big Rock - 12-14-2016 These. Especially the first 10 in bold. I saw Merle Haggard and The Strangers at the Country Club in Reseda California (San Fernando Valley) in 1980. BEST concert I ever saw. Unbelievable. I remember, from years ago, "Mama Tried" and it didn't make me want to hear a lot of his stuff. I'm sure many see it as a "value packed" tune meant to inspire us with those good ideals we learned at the feet of our mothers. Well....I guess I just didn't buy into it, but heard it more as a kind fo simplistic sermon. But, it was a big hit (I've learned) and my opinion is a minority, at least in the C&W world. Curious too about his kind of "preachy" songs like "The Fightin' Side of Me". I fired up WIKI and found that later in life he not only smoked lots of Grass, but was addicted to Coke. And, his early life in The Joint was not exactly a model of good American values like those expressed in at least some of his songs. But, I understand we all deal with our own devils and sometimes fail. I'll still download a couple of his tunes just for what they call the "Bakersfield Sound". Millions of C&W fans can't be wrong. The beauty and wonder of music is that it is so subjective and it may not always be clear what "sound" appeals to us. Whaatever criticism I've voiced here doesn't mean I make any kind of judgements about your liking his stuff...only that we may have different tastes about C&W music. RE: Music - tvguy - 12-15-2016 Wonky.....I regret that I didn't listen to his stuff (or him) during his life. When he passed, I caught a few tributes and realized I had missed something. That's what I do when I'm puttering around in the house. But if I'm out in my shop, and I am a lot. I just play Youtube on my phone and use a blue tooth speaker. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Merle+Haggard RE: Music - Wonky3 - 12-15-2016 (12-15-2016, 03:47 PM)tvguy Wrote: Wonky.....I regret that I didn't listen to his stuff (or him) during his life. I think the sound quality is "a bit better" when I download the 128bit version from iTunes. But thanks for the link. Strange, I never watched MTV but do watch some You Tube stuff. (You Tube just seems to get better and better!) This guy has a cheap ass guitar and can only afford three strings and he STILL rocks the house better that most folks from Julliard.
