Awwww, thanks, Scrapper.
Hearing The Hallelujah Chorus live with an orchestra and, hopefully, good strong sopranos who sing in key is a very moving experience. It can almost make a believer out of you! Laughing

G'morning!!!! Big Grin

RE: Music - Leonard - 11-28-2011

Sticking with female singers on this Monday.

RE: Music - illcommandante - 11-28-2011

The Maddoxes gave us true rock (When Herb humped his bass on stage at Lindy's) but, they weren't rockers. They were a pack of sick crackers, with a load of hangups. I think the fiddler is still going. If so, the normal one lived. But Rose actually was one of the great female singers.

I learn so much from you, illcommandante! I had never heard of these people! And, yes, they are HOT...especially considering this was recorded in 1948, the year I was born! That was a very long time ago.. Thanks!

1948! Wow!

RE: Music - illcommandante - 11-28-2011

I saw The Maddoxes in 1948. Woody Guthrie was with them, and they seemed pretty close. In later years, when Woody had been sent to live with the hippies, Rose said "We didn't really know him". Rose was cleannin' up her past for Bakersfield.

Ah...Bakersfield.
Where there's more Okies than in Oklahoma.
My neighbor is from Bakersfield and sounds exactly like he just got off a slow moving train from Tulsa. Smiling

So, obviously, some of this stuff was going on before Carl Perkins, eh? Go figure.

RE: Music - Wonky - 11-28-2011

A cautionary tale.

RE: Music - cletus1 - 11-29-2011

I started listening to Christian alternative music and ended up here:Eek!
77 million hits. Thank you Lord Jesus. This song is beyond hard rock. Damn if I am not feeling an affinity with believers even though heavy metal is not my favorite music. I had to go to the polar opposite of Wonks selection to get my mojo back.

RE: Music - Crone - 11-29-2011

ooops...cletus figured it out. Laughing

Okay: Make fun of the old guy and his C&W music. (I'm selective: I like lyrics that speak to me, that express something about the human condition). If you listened to this, you heard that.

I also like just plan fun lyric...when done well. For instance: Leonard Cohen doing, "Closing Time".

"iooops..cletus figured it out" refers to the fact that I went to his youtube and then posted it for him, since he had put just a http.
I couldn't delete my post, so I praised Cletus for figuring out how to do it.

RE: Music - cletus1 - 11-30-2011

For my Christian friends.

RE: Music - Crone - 11-30-2011

From a Rolling Stone photo session...a little impromptu sing along with the record:
