I will be curious the cost, ive not seen it verified anywhere that its free, it should be.

I agree, it is to the benefit of the CDC to know what you have.

Well this is a unique situation and I have read elsewhere that tests are upwards of $3,000. Which if accurate is absurd. It's probably a $10 test.

So i have to ask, if your very sick with the flu, and they are giving you oxygen and other medication. They test you and find you have covid19.
Do they change your treatment?
If not, why did you need the test?

They change the coding in the system to charge double. Cool

I'm still waiting for his apology for last week saying we'd be down to 5 cases this week. That must be Pence's fault.

RE: Corona virus - GPnative - 03-04-2020

from local paper article:

Following up on that,Brown wrote to Pence, describing what the state is doing to combat the spread amid three confirmed cases, and what its needs are. She asked for increased flexibility on criteria for testing forthe COVID-19 virus “to better assess the burden of the disease in Oregon resulting from community spread with-in the state.”She expressed worry that rural hospitals and health centers could be over-whelmed if the cases spread around the state.

Honestly, this unwillingness to test and states having to beg for the right to test, is complete and utter bullshit.
If someone wants to walk into urgent care right now with any of the symptoms and want the test, people should be able to get the damn test (unless of course the government is actively trying to keep the scope of spread under wraps, it's the economy stupid)

Edit: and also this little gem:

Oregon may now have 300 to 500 Oregonians who are or were unknowingly carrying the coronavirus, DeanSidelinger, a health officer and epidemiologist with the Oregon Health Authority, told reporters Monday.

I would be willing to drive a few hours.

To wish illness and potential death on others makes you sicker than the corona virus.

Not the individual, he could give a rats ass about tracking.
The question got me thinking about the testing we do now for other flu viruses. Does it change the treatment, if they know what strain you have?
If not, then it only for the benefit of scientist and the patient shouldn't be charged for it.

I've never been to a doctor for a flu. I can barely remember having a flu. I think I had one 30 years ago or so. I don't  get colds either.

I don't think they test you for the flu at all normally.

I don't think your around kids much or people with kids. (Or maybe your memory is going)
I get a mild case of some illness or another from time to time. More of an annoyance then an issue.
might be sniffles , maybe aches, sometimes dry cough, lung hacks, gut issues, fevers or even a combination  of symptoms, (or those dreaded nose worms)
I always feel worse in the morning after laying down and better when up and moving around. So I miss a day off work, here and there, mostly for others. I'm sick but I up and about.  Knowing that if I rest and sleep, I might not wake up.
I also "barely remember having a flu." , because I tend to forget these things.
Then I think back to the time I worked with someone with a kid. The kid got sick, he would get sick, then I got sick.

If Pence is running around, interfacing with people dealing with covid19. There is a good chance he will be infected before the people he is with shows symptoms.
He could easily be a vector to contamination of the entire government. Many of them are in high risk category (They're old).

What happens if Trump and Pence, succumbs to covid19. and Biden also dies. (assuming he wins for demo). What kind of election would we have?

This could be interesting times, (saw that on a fortune cookie)

They used to not, but we now have a generation that runs to the Dr at the slightest sniffle. In all fairness though, they have also been conditioned to see a Dr for everything, even when they are fine, "wellness check". Big money in flu tests now, you go, you get tested, if confirmed, go home and rest, take otc, if negative go home and rest, take otc.

I don't consider that the flu. As far as my memory I just asked my wife seconds ago if she EVER remembers me having the flu. She said no . So it's not my memory.
Other than getting cancer the only time I have EVER been to a doctor(urgent care) was when I thought I broke my hand. I didn't. And I had some weird blockage of my carotid gland and that went away by itself.
When I got cancer 5 years ago was the first time I ever had a primary physician. I saw him one time and I haven't seen him since LOL

ya, I probably have cancer too, but don't know it yet. Also diabetes and other stuff.
I keep telling myself, I should at least go to a doctor once before I die.
I was going to go for a physical when I turned 60, but my doctor died. I haven't looked for another yet.
