RE: Corona virus - tornado - 03-28-2020

Is a virus ever alive?

The following is from Irene Ken physician, whose daughter is an Asst. Prof in infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins University, quite informative.

* The virus is not a living organism, but a protein molecule (DNA) covered by a protective layer of lipid (fat), which, when absorbed by the cells of the ocular, nasal or buccal mucosa, changes their genetic code. (mutation) and convert them into aggressor and multiplier cells.

* Since the virus is not a living organism but a protein molecule, it is not killed, but decays on its own. The disintegration time depends on the temperature, humidity and type of material where it lies.

* The virus is very fragile; the only thing that protects it is a thin outer layer of fat. That is why any soap or detergent is the best remedy, because the foam CUTS the FAT (that is why you have to rub so much: for 20 seconds or more, to make a lot of foam).

By dissolving the fat layer, the protein molecule disperses and breaks down on its own.

* HEAT melts fat; this is why it is so good to use water above 77 degrees Fahrenheit for washing hands, clothes and everything. In addition, hot water makes more foam and that makes it even more useful.

* Alcohol or any mixture with alcohol over 65% DISSOLVES ANY FAT, especially the external lipid layer of the virus.

* Any mix with 1 part bleach and 5 parts water directly dissolves the protein, breaks it down from the inside.

* Oxygenated water helps long after soap, alcohol and chlorine, because peroxide dissolves the virus protein, but you have to use it pure and it hurts your skin.

* NO BACTERICIDE OR ANTIBIOTIC SERVES. The virus is not a living organism like bacteria; antibodies cannot kill what is not alive.

* NEVER shake used or unused clothing, sheets or cloth. While it is glued to a porous surface, it is very inert and disintegrates only
-between 3 hours (fabric and porous),
-4 hours (copper and wood)
-24 hours (cardboard),
- 42 hours (metal) and
-72 hours (plastic).

But if you shake it or use a feather duster, the virus molecules float in the air for up to 3 hours, and can lodge in your nose.

* The virus molecules remain very stable in external cold, or artificial as air conditioners in houses and cars.

They also need moisture to stay stable, and especially darkness. Therefore, dehumidified, dry, warm and bright environments will degrade it faster.

* UV LIGHT on any object that may contain it breaks down the virus protein. For example, to disinfect and reuse a mask is perfect. Be careful, it also breaks down collagen (which is protein) in the skin.

* The virus CANNOT go through healthy skin.

* Vinegar is NOT useful because it does not break down the protective layer of fat.

* NO SPIRITS, NOR VODKA, serve. The strongest vodka is 40% alcohol, and you need 65%.

* LISTERINE IF IT SERVES! It is 65% alcohol.

* The more confined the space, the more concentration of the virus there can be. The more open or naturally ventilated, the less.

* You have to wash your hands before and after touching mucosa, food, locks, knobs, switches, remote control, cell phone, watches, computers, desks, TV, etc. And when using the bathroom.

* You have to Moisturize dry hands from so much washing them, because the molecules can hide in the micro cracks. The thicker the moisturizer, the better.

* Also keep your NAILS SHORT so that the virus does not hide there.

Is a fire alive?
This is a deep question, What is 'being alive' really mean?

we are now at 125,324 cases, with 2,231 deaths and 3,238 recovered.

Would Mike Pence have done any better then Trump?
I know he got task with leading this (front man), but the Don seems to be still calling the shots.

How much difference would there have been, if the Republicans in the Senate had done their job.

I think without Don's ego in the way, he might have done better.

Is it incompetency in world leaders or a fiendish plot to reduce the worlds population.

Quote:Yet even as India was gripped by demonstrations and violence, the coronavirus was making inroads into society here. The country reported its first case on January 30, but authorities steadfastly insisted that cases were one-offs and no local transmission was taking place. In recent weeks, though, India has seen exponential growth in the number of cases. Today, we are three days into a three-week nationwide lockdown, a heavy restriction on a nation of 1.3 billion people that Modi and his government have insisted will help defeat the virus.

Ya, I know, I should have bought more everything, last time I went to the store.

RE: Corona virus - chuck white - 03-29-2020

So a couple of weeks ago, I scored one of these for $2
[Image: A00Z_1_20131206352446728.jpg]

A very cheap mask, but it's got a fair seal around the edges. Problem is the filter element. Very porous, only stops visible dust. It's my starting point. The filter element is easy to pop out. I placed in front of it filter material which is rated 99.9 at 0.1 micron. Placed 'cotton' backing back and then snapped the plastic backing (inside mask, not shown) back on. I now have a pretty good mask , I'm looking at sealing the sides better.

My filter comes from a roll that is 1 1/2" wide, so I had to cut two strips and overlap them.  (I may add a 'glue' on the over lap on my next build)
I suspect the elastic band my degrade quickly. I'm going to look for better elastic straps at Walmart when I go in.

Overall, I'm pleased with the 1st proto type. I'm going to see if any more of the mask are available and make a better one.
I just happen to be lucky to have a few small rolls of filter tape.

RE: Corona virus - GPnative - 03-29-2020

Joco up to 8 confirmed, but id comfortably say multiply by 100 to get closer to actual infected numbers.

RE: Corona virus - chuck white - 03-29-2020

I took a calculated risk. # of case doubles every two days , So it will be twice as risky in two days.
Turned out to be a good move. Hardly anybody at the stores. Shelves were getting better.

Walmart has no flout or yeast
Winco had Toilet paper. (didn't buy any, don't need it)

Winco had some flour, I scored a small bag. There was about 15 bags.

Funny, plenty of sugar. (you can live a long time on sugar and water)

Yogurt smoothie were back at Walmart.

I thing I can go a week now.

Still no thermometers.
$ store had no TP (north end store didn't look at the south end)

A few kids and young people who didn't seem to notice you were trying to avoid them. (Walmart )
