Make no mistake, I am conservative as well but she makes me look like Karl Marx. She has a Trump bumper sticker on her car. I've suggested that she remove it but she refuses. The other day she was driving across town in Torrance, Cal. when a guy behind her lays on his horn... not just a honk but a full on, non-stop HONNNNNNNNNNNNNK! Mom was petrified. She was sure she had cut him off and maybe almost caused a wreck. So the guy pulls around her on her right... honking all the while. So she rolls down the passenger window to see what his problem is. FUUUCCCCKKKK YOUUUUUUUUUU YOUUUU RACIST!!!!!! he bellows.

Now Mom is many things. But racist is not one of them. I submit to you that there are many reasons why Trump won in 2016, (I did not vote), but bullshit like this is one reason why... and it is also why I might just pull the lever in 2020.

So because there's an ass hole in California it decides for you who to vote for? Huh.

I don't condone what happened to your mother. I wouldn't condone that sort of thing to happen to anybody. Your mom is free to support who she wishes just like any one else.

If I misunderstand your point, well, sorry.
Yes. You missed my point.

OK, then what is your point.

My point was NOT this this single incident will cause me to overcome my disdain Trump and vote for him in 2020. But rather that it was this type of contempt and derision, (from many on the left), for anyone that would've rather seen Trump in the office than Hillary, is exactly what pushed just enough voters to the booth in 2016. Without the "spite vote" she would have prevailed. And if it continues, I'll consider voting for Trump... depending on who is running against him.

To be clear, it was not about a single asshole in California... are you really saying that you thought it was?
You are considering voting for the single biggest lying ignorant self centered vindictive conceited asshole ever to be in politics let alone be president......
Because of assholes on the left? Laughing

Spite can be blind. Tell your asshole friends on the left.... ya know, in case they didn't learn in 2016. I don't care if you are liberal... just don't call me, (or my mom), racist simply because we are not with you politically. That's chickenshit. It would be nice to see the leaders on the left take a stand against it. Do they? That's how I will be convinced. I'm waiting for a party to take the high road. So far, it's not happening... they just tunnel deeper and deeper.

Tunneling deeper and deeper is a perfect analogy of the left and right on the same course in different ways. And im with you, i will spite vote in a heartbeat. But my spite is against both parties and since trump is hated by both, the spite vote is looking good for 2020.

I know that you never called me racist. I was speaking in general terms. I don't think that all, or even most, Dems are Socialist. But I think that most Dems would  prefer a Socialist in the White House over Trump.

I'm a Dem in the technical sense only, so I can vote in a primary election. But I'll admit I would prefer just about anybody in the White House over trump. I'll be willing to let the congress and the supremes keep them in bounds. If trump doesn't fuck up the supremes too that is.

And thanks for not thinking I'm a Socialist, you seem more reasonable now.   Big Grin

And incredibly short sighted. trump supporters still don't seem to comprehend that he's setting precedents that will most probably really piss them off in future.

I'm not and so what if some asshole did? It's hard for me to NOT think Trump is a racist. So even if someone is not a racist IMO it's easy to see why someone might think anyone who supports trump is a racist.

All I'm saying is that I have no love for Trump. I've been quite clear about that. I am more or less in line with his economic policies but that's not enough to get me to the polls. I don't like him as a human being. However, if I get ridiculed personally for agreeing with him "in general" then that might make the difference in whether or not I vote. And it DID make in difference, for many people, in 2016.

Trumps a businessman. He got to where he is by being a good businessman.  So, sure, he runs the business end of the job pretty well, but it doesn't change my opinion of him. To me, it's not enough to be a good businessman.  There are many aspects to good business as well as ethics, which I have not seen any indication that Trump is in possession of decent ones.  And there's a lot more that's despispcable about him as well.  But that aside, he's a deplorable person in other ways. I don't think there's anything coming that could get me to vote for him at election time.

Not exactly the same as my situation. I know that you are not a far left nut case. But I believe that you lean that way and would typically vote Dem rather than Rep under normal circumstances. But I lean right and still my distaste for Trump kept me away from the polls in 2016. And that's really saying something because I despise Hillary. A more fitting comparison for you would be if there was a Dem running for POTUS with the same sort of "bad image" that Trump has. Bill Clinton comes to mind for me. In fact, in my view, (politics aside), they are almost the same person.

To be clear, Juniper, this last bit is not pointed at you but I would not be surprised to see this thread now become a place for our resident Clinton apologists to state their case. <shrug>

People like that don't deserve to vote.
Ridiculous immaturity.

And its the reactions such as this that make it all the sweeter. You boomers got us in this mess.

You boomers got us in this mess. It's funny you said that because some idiot on FB said the exact same thing to me.

I've never called you, your mom or anyone else for that matter, a racist. With the exception of trump, I might have called him one, I don't remember. But I understand you might be annoyed about that. I get tired of being called a Socialist sometimes too. Maybe you could work on that with your asshole friends on the right?

Exactly. I'm tired of being told I'm for open borders and anti gun. The right stereotypes every bit as much or more than the left.

I don't see how you can compare 2016 to 2020. Must of us had no clue what a moron Trump is until he showed the world.
Plus there was a ton of hatred toward Hillary because so many hated Clinton.

Yeah never mind that we Boomers helped build this country compared to most all others to what I consider a shining beacon on a hill.
That attracts more people than we can handle. Never mind the amount of food we produce, the medical advances, the technology. The products/goods the military might we use to protect freedom all over the world.
