It only shows someone logged on when they're active. If you don't log off, and you don't click around, the system gives you a soft log off. It recognizes that you aren't really logged on. But if you click "log out", you are telling your computer to log out of the system and to delete whatever login cookies you have, so that the next time you come to the site you'll have to go through the whole login process again.

It's a lot simpler to just tell the system to remember your computer and log you in automatically when you visit the site. It will also log you out automatically (as far as telling people you're here and such) when you don't click on anything for five minutes or so.

Then, if you want to stop having it log you in automatically, for whatever reason, that's when you actually click on the "log out" link.

I don't mind the extra work if it keeps you all from eye balling me.

Makes me wonder who or how many people even look at the bottom of the page to see who is here. I sure as hell don't, why do I care?
