Opposing Donald Trump is a bit like "supporting the troops".

To truly support our troops we should do something active. For instance: Many enlisted people in our military service are eligible for food stamps suggesting they struggle with other financial commitments. If we know a service family in our community we might offer to assist in supplementing the basic needs a family depends on. (Just one example).

If we feel Mr. Trump is incompetent and effecting leadership that is damaging the basic structure of our political and social climate we should do something more than "resist" in name only. What? We each can make choices about what action we want to take. Some may want to be active in the local Democratic party and elect people to our congress who could make Mr. Trump's actions impotent. Some may want to organize neighborhood groups of like minded people who would think of ways to be active in resistance. Others may want to write frequent well written and expressed letters to the editors or the local paper. To OPPOSE Donald Trump requires action, not simply the feeling that we oppose him. 

And some simply can't. Life can be harsh and unfair, draining the energy we might want to give to any resistance. Then, simply voicing that opposition might be all we can do, and that too is adding to the effort. 

We have had a year to take the measure of Mr. Trump. Many of us feel he must be made ineffective if not replaced. For those of us who feel this, let's agree to do what we can.

If someone in the military is on food stamps It's because he/she has children, probably more than one. No one told them to have children. That was their choice. So their choice is why they are on foodstamps.
And if so we are ALREADY supporting them.

Finding some poor local military person in the valley and giving them whatever you have in mind? To Supplement their "basic needs" sounds ridiculous to me.





And while VS says he agrees with you, so do I on the other stuff. But lets be real. You just told VS to fish or cut bait.

Yeah, I admit I don't have "the numbers" about what enlisted people in the military make these days, but I read often in the press that many lower ranking enlisted people get food stamps. About their having children: I don't know, maybe they hoped for advancement faster than it happened. It was only to make a point. Maybe they are making bad choices, lots of civilians do and they get food stamps.
But you are right: The point was kind of "shit or get off the pot". 
I think that bumber sticker "Support our Troops" is without teeth. "Support" means something more than agreeing they should go fight and die. So, I guess if I had any real backbone I'd go down to the local armory and see if I could do something to help. Now you know a lot about me...all talk, no action.
And, I feel the same way about "resisting" this president and his bumbling rants. Just laughing at the guy is not going to do much: Those young enough and with the energy and time are going to have to do something ACTIVE. 
Yep. Fish or cut bait. I did a bit of it "back in the day". Just grunt work, but I WAS active.
