DETAILS:
In January of 2011 Grants Pass Department of Public Safety received reports that Mr. Gordon DeYoung had been having a sexual contact with a juvenile male at two locations. The locations were 322 SE L Street (the residence of Mr. Gordon DeYoung) and 695 SE J Street (Woodworking shop of Mr. Gordon DeYoung). The reports also included information that Mr. DeYoung had been providing marijuana to the juvenile victim. These assaults occurred during the past two years.

On January 18, 2011 Detectives from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety stopped a vehicle on J Street near 12th Street. The vehicle was driven by Mr. Ira Hays. The passenger in the vehicle was Mr. DeYoung. Mr. DeYoung was taken into custody on the above listed charges. Mr. Hays was released from the scene.

The Detectives served a search warrant at 322 SE L Street minutes after taking Mr. DeYoung into custody. Several hours later a search warrant was served at Mr. DeYoungâ??s woodworking shop.

After serving the search warrant at Mr. DeYoungâ??s woodworking shop, detectives received information that Mr. Ira Hays and Mr. James Damore had entered the woodworking shop just prior to officers serving a search warrant. Mr. Hays and Mr. Damore removed evidence from the woodworking shop.

Detectives contacted Mr. Damore at his residence (362 SW K Street). Detectives recovered several items which had earlier been removed from the woodworking shop (Including approximately 8 ounces of marijuana). Mr. Damore was taken into custody and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on the above listed charges.

Detectives also drove to the residence of Mr. Hays (8299 New Hope Road). Detectives recovered additional evidence which had been removed from Mr. DeYoungâ??s woodworking shop. The charges listed above on Mr. Hays will be referred to the District Attorney for review. Below are photos of Mr. DeYoung and Mr. Damore.

Officers from Grants Pass Department of Public Safety are continuing to investigate this incident.

Anyone with the information about the incident is asked to contact the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety at 474-6370.
