RICHARD LACEY AGAIN?
#1
Perhaps Mr. Lacey needs to change occupations, he really isn't good at this one.

An investigation by the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) team led to the arrest Wednesday of a Wolf Creek-area man who is the owner of the Grants Pass business "Get Your Hemp On/Southern Oregon Cannabis Club". Detectives seized over 15 pounds of marijuana, over 300 small marijuana plants and other evidence. The arrest came following an investigation that continued after his arrest last year on multiple felony marijuana charges.

On March 21, 2012 at approximately 9:00 a.m. RADE team detectives, assisted by Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Major Crimes detectives and Oregon State Police troopers, served two search warrants; one warrant at the residence of RICHARD LARRY LACEY, age 62, located in the 300 block of Frontage Road in Wolf Creek, and the other at the "Get Your Hemp On" business located in the 1400 block of NE 6th Street in Grants Pass.

At the Wolf Creek residence, detectives seized approximately 14 pounds of marijuana, 216 small marijuana plants, a firearm and other evidence.

At the Grants Pass business, detectives seized over one pound of marijuana, approximately one pound of marijuana-laced candy, 90 small marijuana plants, and other evidence.

Another forum member had recently pointed out to me what an enormous greenhouse this guy has behind his house, so I made a point of looking next time I went by (it's right next to the freeway) and I have to say it's one of the most industrial looking greenhouses I think I've ever seen for someone's private home crop. I can find it on Google Earth but I can't seem to figure how to send the link.

P.S. I think most people will know this guy as Larry Lacey, indeed, this is the first I caught his real first name is Richard.

True, all that.

But I'd like to see our police resources go toward more violent crime. (yes, "drugs" do cause crime. De-criminalize it and stop that too)

That may be true, but a different discussion. My personal feeling is because of this man's "history" in these parts, he has a large target on his back. If he wants to continue illegal activity (until the laws are changed) he should go somewhere he is not known so well.

For a risk-taker personality like Larry, it wouldn't be fun or worthwhile either one if it wasn't something right on the edge. Smiling

I had a probation office supervisor tell me once that you can't change those kinds of people, who are in it for the "bucks and the excitement". Then she looked me right in the eye. I was going out with her daughter at the time. Smiling

To be clear, you are talking about "our" Larry. Just thought I'd mention it.

To be clear, we're talking about Richard Larry Lacey, the subject of this thread. I don't believe they're at all the same person.

Yeah, again I failed to proof read. Getting to be a problem. Sorry.

Of course I meant to say you are NOT talking about our Larry.

I'll try to be more careful.

We all acknowledge there's more than one Larry in the world. I've met the Larry character in this thread, and he's very colorful and entertaining if you can overlook the fact he's also sort of a snake in the grass. I've never met forum Larry, so any comparisons between the two of them would be, uh, oh, where was I going here. Smiling

Larry Lacey is an idiot and a snake... who thinks he doesn't have to live within the laws, like the rest of the world.

At least some of the things Larry did, that governments didn't like, was remodeling the interiors of commercial buildings without permits. I don't personally see any big deal about that, so in some senses, I don't care for the laws he's accused of violating either. The zoning differences were more politically driven because people didn't like him more than any real reasons that I saw.

I also realize it's somewhat controversial to defend anything this guy did, but the main thing I think he did was offend the sensibilities of the locals. I didn't realize there were laws against that either. Smiling

They're all jockeying, for that inside pole position. I think Smith Kline & French have it, right now.

It's a big deal when they do their own shoddy electrical and burn the place down or when they remove a load bearing wall with out the proper support.
people do that. That's why we need governments and regs.

Points granted. On the other hand, I see the commercial owners perspective. The law doesn't allow commercial building owners themselves to do anything on their own buildings but the most routine maintenance, so they're required to get permits and hire licensed and bonded contractors for practically everything they want done. This kind of make-work activity can increase a $2,000 job into a $50,000 one in no time quick, and sometimes you know in your own mind it's something that's actually quite simple. Therein lies the dilemma.

Removing a load bearing wall on a room above where people go and eat is reckless. I would expect some assurance of safety when I enter a commercial building. At least there was not a major quake when he did that or we would have been pulling out corpses from the rubble.

Also In SV he rewired the night club for his stage lights. Not sure if that was inspected or done with permits. His outside billboard trailer got fire one night and I believe that was from an electrical short.

I assumed somebody had torched the billboard. In my experience load bearing walls are not very common in commercial buildings, which are typically built free-span with freestanding walls and suspended ceilings. That's why, other than the wiring, there doesn't seem much to them from a remodeling standpoint.

I know Larry was accused of taking a wall out of his Grants Pass building, I never knew if that was really load bearing or it was just an argument they were using against him.

I suppose if I'm honest when I was younger my mentors favored methods around the rules, too. Some people tell me that attitude is becoming obsolete. Smiling

It is people like Larry Lacey that make the rules NEEDED... because they can't be trusted to care about the safety of others or to do the right thing. People like him are all about themselves and the almighty dollar... no matter how they have to go about getting it.

His real problem was he wanted to put a strip joint right in the middle of a small town with this many churches.Laughing
