So I bought a space heater. It worked great for 4 days then stopped turning on. Sigh. Back to the store. Buy a different one. It's ok, but not for really heating a house. Anyway. I see some news that we may have some snow flurry by Saturday. But then it should warm up after that.
When you say my heater went out!.. what do you mean? A furnace or what?
I buy the milk house style electric heaters at Big R. They are cheap and have lasted me two to three years with out any problems. I think they are 14 or 16 bucks.
What's a milkhouse heater? I'm fine, btw.
Oh, yeah! I picked one of those up on Sunday and plugged it in. It promptly threw the breaker!
So what else was on that circuit?

two other heaters.
What you need to do , is replace the circuit breaker with one that has a bigger number on the front. You probably have a '20'. Go down and buy a '60'. that should keep it from tripping.
Nah....that ain't gonna happen.
I HOPE NOT!
Chuck should have added a couple of smiley faces or something to indicate he was not serious!
Had you beefed up the circuit allowance it would keep the heater from tripping the breaker. And it might very well heat the wires red hot and start a fire.
Not funny, that.

Yes. It was 32.5 the night before last and a little more normal 44 last night. I set it at 67 when I get up, then turn it off for the day after it reaches that.

I have the thermostat set for 60. Sometimes it pops on. I have an oil heater in the front room that has been running for a couple of weeks now. Do they stop working so well after a year or two? It seems like it used to heat things up a lot more.

Yep! i've got one of those! And I'm using it right now. I could go without it. It just feels nice.
I have an old micro wave oven, that keeps my feet warm.
Just had to remove the door and jam the latch.

My heat came on a couple weeks ago in the morning. I'd forgotten that I replaced the battery in the thermostat over the summer and the heat set point defaulted to around 68-70 degrees. I fixed that but now it's cool enough in the mornings that it comes on for a bit anyway, not much during the day yet. I set it for 65F.

Ahhh... I have OCD and a part of that regards numbers... I have a thing about even numbers... hence the heat being set at 66.

We set our heat to 69 and that feels cold to me but that's where my wife likes it so, uhh, that's where it stays. We set our A/C to 72. We installed a new gas heater and a new AC unit last year. The AC is saving us major money on our electric bill. Maybe upwards of $150 savings per month during the summer. And it cools MUCH better.
Soon we will start using the wood stove. We have about 2 cord of madrone left from last year. I think we save maybe $150 per month burning wood rather than natural gas. I don't know if it's worth it given the extra smoke in the valley.
To answer the question... Yes, we've turned on the heat, for a very short time, a few mornings recently.
But this is "open window" weather. This weekend's weather was about as perfect as you'll find for my taste. In fact, right now, this moment, it's damn nice out. I'm going to go sit on my front porch and enjoy my adult beverage.

I've noticed people are selling madrone for $275 to over $300.
You have natural gas heat, I wish I did. I would think with firewood getting expensive people who have to pay those high prices are not much better off than paying a gas bill.
But then again I don't know what natural gas costs these days. But good for you for getting new equipment and saving all that money. A word to the wise... insulate the hell out of your attic.
BTW we still haven't used any heat

My gas total bill since we moved here in May is $167. This month it's $33, but I'm sure it will be going up. I hope my water/sewer goes down because I think $190. for the two is RIDICULOUS.

TVguy still hasn't used heat? Wow! I fired up the heaters Sept 1st. . (Maybe the 15th).
VS, I bet your water/sewer bill covers a lot more. Mine is high too but includes all kinds of other city fees. It's what local politicians do so they can claim they didn't raise taxes.

OK we used the heat. Just a little while ago. For about 15 minutes.I left the gate open and two of my dogs ran away like Cool hand Luke.
I drove around for a couple hours and saw nothing.
Finally my wife found them next door I have no idea where they were the whole time.
Anyway she had the door open the whole time crying her eyes out and the house cooled down.
