CAIRO (AP) — Masked militants riding in three SUVs opened fire Friday on a bus packed with Coptic Christians, including many children, south of the Egyptian capital, killing at least 26 and wounding 25, the Interior Ministry said.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, the fourth to target Christians since December, but it bore the hallmarks of the Islamic State group.

Islamic militants have for years been waging an insurgency mostly centered in the restive northern part of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, although a growing number of attacks have recently also taken place on the mainland.
The assault happened while the bus was traveling on a side road in the desert leading to the remote monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor in Maghagha, in Minya governorate, about 220 kilometers (140 miles) south of Cairo.
Security officials quoted witnesses as saying they saw between eight and 10 attackers, dressed in military uniforms and wearing masks. The victims were en route from the nearby province of Beni Suef to visit the monastery.
Khaled Mogahed, the Health Ministry spokesman, said the death toll stood at 26 but feared it could rise further. According to Copts United news portal, only three children survived the attack. It was not immediately known if most or all of the victims were children.

Well, I guess we need to thank you for keeping us abreast of the news. (So many of us don't have TV, radio, Internet, mobil devices, newspapers, periodicals, etc, so your posting is important).

Yes, "The religion of peace strikes again". As it did in Northern Ireland, The Baltics, Russia, Germany, The American West, and so many other places around the globe over the years. Tribal religious wars are as old as the first societies. Ignorance trumps (no pun intended) reason, and we are witnessing yet another round of "populist" ignorance that supports the kind of rhetoric you so often post here. It's as if the Age of Reason didn't happen. Sad,  beyond belief.

You attention to this is simplistic, purely political, and boring. And still, you have the right to space to voice whatever tripe you choose. For that, you can thank a Liberal Democratic Republic. Pray the current threat of one Donald J. Trump and company does not destroy it.

So why do I bother with a reply? Because hopes springs eternal. I can hope that maybe lightening will strike and you will suddenly become reflective and rational and begin to engage in meaningful dialog here, a contributing member of the forum.

But I won't be holding my breath.

From the article...

"The attack, which Egypt's Muslim leaders condemned, happened 15 km (10 miles) from the monastery, a security official on the scene told Reuters."

"The injured were taken to local hospitals and some were being transported to Cairo. One of the vehicles attacked was taking men to carry out maintenance work at the monastery while another was carrying children, officials said.

The Health Ministry said that among those injured were two children aged two."

Responsible?  How so?  Because a couple of leaders spoke out against it?  Talk is cheap.  Do something other than talk.  Destroy it.  Start with the clerics in the mosques who encourage these attacks.

My comment was more about the lack of integrity in the Breitbart article you posted. " It was not immediately known if most or all of the victims were children." Really? what does that mean? I suppose it isn't quite a lie but not being really honest either. Kind of like "it's not yet certain the world will end tomorrow."

You should absolutely go right on down to your local Mosque and kill a few of them muzzies, you'll feel much better.

I know your inner Katy Perry is channeling thoughts like this: "I think that the greatest thing we could do is just unite and love on each other, and like, no barriers, no borders, like, we all need to just co-exist.”

One homeless man, no doubt disturbed and irrational, busted a church door and ranted about Christians.

This is not a "terrorist threat". It's not newsworthy.

Yeah, and he only stabbed a farmer anyway. Not like he stabbed a bartender, stand-up comic, or dentist.

I'm sure you actually remember them.  But how many lately?  Did all of the other religions grow up or what?  Using the Crusades as an argument to NOT be upset by the barbaric tactics of CURRENT Muslim extremists is no different than yelling "HITLER!" every time Trump is mentioned.  Do you do that too?

No, I don't remember the Crusades: I was only 12 years old.  Laughing

My point (and I think you missed or ignored it) is that we have suffered religious intolerance since religion was first organized. As to our "how many lately"...not all that long ago that the Protestant Irish and Catholic Irish were bombing and shooting one another. The tensions are still high. Tensions between Jews and Christians are still a problem in many parts the world and even in pockets in the U.S. The Amish are hassled by Christians in parts of our own country. American Indians are often persecuted by people of faith when they practice the religion of their elders.

Your Hitler/Trump comment is simply too goofy to consider seriously. Only ignorant knee-jerk simpletons use those stupid remarks.

Yes: Extremist Muslim Radicals are dangerous, ignorant and to be taken seriously. Still, we need to keep it in historical context and accept the history of what religious extremes can do.

But, I share your concern for the murder and mayhem these radical nut-job Muslims perpetrate on the Christians they hunt.

Ignorance is our worst enemy.
