I saw that. Catalpa's are very drought resistant. I have one growing on the back of my property that's been there for years and I've never watered it.
Keep in mind I'm in a desert and the ground dries out.

Oh I see. When I read "volunteers from the garden " I thought you meant humans volunteering from some public garden or what ever.
Anyway if I remember they all looked to be the same size. As if they were possibly planted from seed.
Personally I think it's like selling dandelions.
They are just trying to sell trees like any nursery would.
