MEDFORD, Ore -- A new park is one step closer to becoming a reality in Medford. The city held a ground-breaking today for the Oregon Hills Parkā€¦, located at McAndrews Road and Tamarac Drive. Crews hope to have the first phase finished by the end of the summer. There will be no play structures, instead you will find natural features for children like big boulders and a tree house.
Daniel Bunn with the Medford Parks and Recreation Commission says everyone in the city should have access to a green space, "everyone needs to have a park and this neighborhood doesn't have one. and all these homes are being built and kids need a place to play."
The park will cost about 1-million dollars, that money is coming from a state grant. Crews have been working on plans since 2006.

It does make me chuckle a bit as the Lincoln (?) park that has been discussed for a low income neighborhood for 10 years is still not a reality. That's a higher income area. But it should be fantastic. There's also the nature center in South Medford on the greenway, but it's got a ways to go. I would love to see more of these kinds of parks. And hopefully they will be commutable easily by bicycle?
