My old VW bug had one of those. (and a running board, so you could ride on the outside of the car)

My 90+ year old Ford has one but it's on the starter.

This topic is making me feel old. I've had them be dimmer switches and had starter switches down there too. In cars and trucks I regularly drove (at least sometimes), too.

Oh yeah...I had forgotten those starter switches!
I remember those too, now.
I guess we both can feel old.
Nah...we're not old, just experienced.
My Austin Healy had a button on the dash for a starter...and a switch to flip to go into overdrive.
I'll never forget that beautiful sound when driving her down the road at 70, then flipping that switch.
Cars can purr. Smiling

Brings back memories of my first car, a 1964 Chrysler New Yorker.

That's pretty close to my first car. I had a 63 Plymouth with the 318 and the pushbutton tyranny. And a 57 ford and a 1939 Plymouth. All when I was sixteenBig Grin I actually bought the Plymouth when I was 15.

I had that 318 in a Dodge Dart with a Hurst 4 on the floor.
I had no problem passing big trucks on curvey hills. Big Grin

Gas guzzlin' pigs, but they could stomp all over the little sports cars my classmates in high school had...granted theirs looked nicer 'cause they were new...while mine was down to below the primer in spots, lol! Hand-me-down cars...hee hee! Smiling

Mopars ruled for a while but I was mostly a Chevy guy. I had a 1967 2 door Malibu. Red on red with Cragars,283 CI. It had 250 HP from the factory before I put a 4 barrel Holley carb on it.
That thing was a beauty.

My first ride was a 1930 Maxwell. Got it from Jack Benny. I didn't start driving until I was 35, having served in Cuba. The Maxwell wouldn't start after Mr. Benny died. I sold it to Amy Simple McPherson to be used as a mail box. I'm channeling IC.

Oh, yeah, good stuff.
Before I die I'd like to once again hear that sound of a 4-barrel kicking in. I LOVE that sound. I love cars that go fast and feel solid in their tires. My Austin Healy was great on curves, but I'll take an American car hands down for the straightaway or for hills.

My friends heard a guy looking for pot in Ashland. And another guy saying, "Look for the green VW with no doors". I had take a sabbatical from my education, when I heard about that. Clear to Baja.

Is it anything like English Gripe Water? My DH used to give it to our first baby when she was upset. Worked like a charm. One day I picked it up and looked at the ingredients. AWWWWK! Seventy percent alcohol!!! No more Gripe Water AND it is illegal in the USA.

He was in the doghouse for awhile after that one. Eek!

As for cars, I always told my girls that the best guys have the worst cars. Any kid driving a Corvette or a BMW is a spoiled brat.
