Head of cybercrime task force in southern Oregon resigns amid investigation

I wonder what's really going on here (they're not saying so far) and also, why does this area have the only non-federal cybercrimes forensic facility in the country when local law enforcement is supposed to be so broke? Are we a hotbed of computer criminals? http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northw...in_so.html

Excerpt: "A police lieutenant who leads the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force has resigned amid an investigation.

Jackson County District Attorney Mark Huddleton announced the resignation Wednesday but declined to provide any details about the allegations against Josh Moulin, who was a member of the Central Point Police Department.

To avoid potential conflicts of interest, the Oregon State Police is investigating and the Oregon Department of Justice will decide whether to prosecute.

State police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings declined to comment, other than to confirm the investigation remains active. Moulin has an unlisted phone number and could not be reached for comment.

Though he wouldn't discuss specifics of the case, Huddleton said in a statement he has "no reason to believe that any of the issues under investigation would lead his office to conclude that any criminal investigations conducted by Lt. Moulin or the High-Tech Crimes Task Force had been compromised."

The unit that focuses on cybercrime dates to 2005, when Moulin approached Central Point officials about forming it, the Mail Tribune reported.

Other agencies heard about the work the department was doing and asked for assistance and training. By 2011, the task force had grown to nine members from multiple agencies, including Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland, Klamath Falls and Central Point police departments, the FBI, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office.

The task force is the only nonfederal law enforcement agency in the U.S. that solely does digital forensics and is accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors.

Huddleston said the task force is currently being led by Miles Wiltrout, an FBI special agent."
