I had Google Chrome as my web browser, when I installed some Microsoft updates I ended up with bing as my web browser. I don't like bing so I re-installed Google Chrome (well actually someone did it for me) and now my computer runs very slow. In fact it takes forever to log on to any internet site including here. I think Microsoft installed a "Slow Mo" bug in my computer so that I would switch back to bing and I am going to do it too. I also think the Oregon Lottery has a giant computer in Salem that analyse all the numbers bet on Keno games and then selects numbers that wilt pay out the least amount of money. Blink

Maybe the fact that your computer is a 1979 model is a problem.

And having 720 GB of porn on the hard drive might slow things down a bit.

Download http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download (the free version) and it should fix things up hunky dory.

Someone I know on Facebook types the President's name "Barack HUSSEIN Obama".
Every time I see her post it that way I want to slap some sense into her.

Until you can figure out the full fix you can click on the wrench icon in the upper right hand corner and pull down to open incognito window...it will load quicker.

There are also other solutions online if you do a search, I don't remember the actual fix I used.

Are you sure the MS updates didn't restore IE as your default browser?
I imagine you still had chrome on there. You might have 2 now.

Yes, I have IE and IE's default search engine is Bing. Perhaps the terms are confusing me or you. I now have Google Chrome as my search engine, but internet searches now take longer.

From the net:
"However by default Internet Explorer 9 has Bing as the default search engine provider for end users who prefer to use address bar to search purpose. However if Bing is not your favourite search engine, you can always add other search engines or even create your own search engine in Internet Explorer 9."

Cletus I have Bing also. I don't even know how it got there. I don't use it, I click on Google from my bookmarks and use that.

But please answer me. Why can't you just restore to an earlier point?

OK, I thought IE was the devil and way more prone to problems etc. I think Mozilla Firefox has less crap and is not as vulnerable to attacks and such.

OK, can't you restore your PC to an earlier point?

cletus...

Those unwanted search features are often associated with tool-bars that you "okayed" while installing some other software or update. I recommend a good software removal program, (I use IObit uninstaller from Advanced System Care) available here:

http://www.iobit.com/

I would avoid using it's (or any) registry cleaner.

Then go down the list and clear out those tool bars and whatever else may be running in the background and slowing you down.

FYI... I use the Opera web browser and have done so for years. No complaints. Very secure.

Because... you heathenous lout... System Restore doesn't necessarily remove everything that might have recently caused problems. This is especially true for bugs and viruses. It is good for certain things.. for example... restoring your PC from an unstable state to a stable state where you can then proceed to fix and repair the real source of the problem.

In some cases System Restore is all that is required but in many cases that is just the first step to take toward fixing a problem and keeping a past problem from reappearing.

BTW... no need to address me as "oh heavenly father above"
