NEWTOWN, Conn. — Some children were among those killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., on Friday, The Hartford Courant reported.

The number of victims is unclear. Many of the shootings took place in a kindergarten classroom, the paper reported.

An official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way told the Associated Press the gunman apparently had two guns. The school district remains on lockdown as police investigate the shootings. There are unconfirmed reports of two shooters, according to the paper.

Some students were reportedly being treated for trauma. A dispatcher at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps said a teacher has been shot in the foot and taken to Danbury Hospital, but it's unclear if that's the only injury.

One child was carried from the school by a police officer, according to The Newtown Bee, apparently seriously wounded.

The school superintendent's office says the district has locked down schools as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

State police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance says they have a number of personnel on the scene to assist.

The Courant reported that police said a shooter was in the main office of the school shortly after 9:40 a.m.

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers, the Courant reported.

A staging area has been set up for students and their parents near the school.

The rampant gun violence and the murdering of innocent children in schools is but one symptom of a very sick society and it is long past time for Americans to wake up and have a serious discussion about guns at home and the Pax Americana abroad.

This situation has become intolerable in a civilized society, but then who can blame anyone when their governments only recourse to worlds events it to shoot first and ask questions later, if ever and to punish anyone who tells the truth as the what is actually happening on the ground.

"Live by the sword, die by the sword".................. a quote from someone whose words have little meaning today.

Wake up and do what? You have all the answers. What do we need to wake up and do?
And as far as you blaming this on our governments ? Even though it's par for the course for you to blame EVERYTHING on our government, you are more ridiculous now than ever.

Man slashes 22 children near China school

By John Hannon

December 14, 2012, 1:47 a.m.
BEIJING -- A man with a knife slashed 22 children and one adult outside an elementary school in Henan province Friday morning, the worst such incident in more than a year.

The attack was reminiscent of a spate of knife attacks on schoolchildren that took place across China in 2010. In most cases, the attackers were unemployed middle-aged men, leading to speculation that the assaults stemmed from economic and social discontent

Time to ban knives?

The kids should have had concealed carry permits. Where are our resident gun nuts?

Who or what does one blame for this disgusting display of wantonness.

One sick young man, his family, his upbringing, his lack of education, the gun laws and the ability of very sick people to purchase them and/or the sign of a very sick society?

Sandy Hook Security Policy

(WTNH) -- This is the school security policy letter that went out to Sandy Hook Elementary school parents at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year.

Dear Members of our Sandy Hook Family,

Our district will be implementing a security system in all elementary schools as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure student safety. As usual, exterior doors will be locked during the day. Every visitor will be required to ring the doorbell at the front entrance and the office staff will use a visual monitoring system to allow entry. Visitors will still be required to report directly to the office and sign in. If our office staff does not recognize you, you will be required to show identification with a picture id. Please understand that with nearly 700 students and over 1000 parents representing 500 SHS families, most parents will be asked to show identification.

Doors will be locked at approximately 9:30 a.m. Any student arriving after that time must be walked into the building and signed in at the office. Before that time our regular drop-off procedures will be in place. I encourage all parents to have their children come to school and return home on the bus and to remain in school for the entire school day. The beginning and ending of our school day are also important instructional times and therefore we want all our students to reap the benefits of full participation in our program.

We need your help and cooperation for our system to work effectively. Our office staff is handling multiple tasks. Though they will work diligently to help you into the building as quickly as possible, there may be a short delay until someone can view you on the handset and allow you to come in electronically. There are times during the day when office personnel are on the telephone, addressing student concerns, or in the copy room; there are other times when only one person is in the front office. Please help our staff by identifying yourself and provide your child’s name. Keep in mind we will be following our district guidelines which may need revision once we test the system.

Please know your involvement continues to be critical to our school’s effectiveness and your child’s success. We continue to encourage and value your presence in our classrooms and are counting on your cooperation with the implementation of this safety initiative.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Hochsprung
