Extinct in Germany

They're still extinct. They only brought these ones in from Asia.

They were not "thought to be extinct" They were extinct in Europe but not in Asia. So they relocated the Asian water buffaloes to Germany.

It would have been cool if water buffalo's, thought to be extinct for 10,000 years had really been surviving all this time in some hidden away little cranny that humans never go to, and suddenly showed up on somebody's back porch though.

That's what I thought it was, and had similar thoughts.
