THE DALLES, Ore. -- Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a 5-year-old boy who was snatched from a residence in The Dalles, Ore.

Police activated the Amber Alert system Wednesday morning, in hopes the public can help them find 5-year-old Skylar Melvin Coulcer-Jarding.

Police say he is in danger, after being snatched out of a home by Brian Lester DePriest, 36, at around 5:45 a.m.

Authorities say DePriest broke into the residence and assaulted two adults with a hammer, then snatched the boy and left on foot to a waiting vehicle, a stolen Chevy Cavalier. Authorities say DePriest knew the boys mother.

Skylar is described as being about 3' 6" tall, with sandy hair and thick glasses. Authorities say he has a speech impediment.

Officials say DePriest is about 6'5", 210 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and jeans.

The vehicle is a light blue 97 Chevy Cavalier, described as having a dolphins sticker on the back of the car. It's license plate number is 229BUK.
