David Sirota, Salon.com
http://www.salon.com/2013/04/16/lets_hop..._american/
How many people here "hoped" for a specific demographic to be the guilty party?
Is there ANYONE here who would like to dispute the fact that the events in Boston over the past week are a result of Islamic Extremism?
Will Mr. Sirota apologize?
Don't hold your breath.

All terrorists should be dealt with in the same way regardless where they're from. Do we need to better define what constitutes a terrorist? I think so.
I guess this is a separate issue, but what do you think about taking to the streets or in the ballparks chanting USA, USA? Applauding the efforts of the police is one thing, but the chanting reminds me of the people of the middle east doing basically the same and it makes my stomach turn.

He actively, and publicly, HOPED that this was domestic terrorism. AKA.... He actively, and publicly, WANTED this to be Leonard's wet dream, and OUR FAULT.

BS.
He HOPED for nothing. He made an intelligent analysis based on historic events and our reactions to them as a country.
He made some very valid points as to how we react differently to domestic terrorism vs Islamic terrorism.
Open your mind even a little bit and you might be surprised at what you can see.

That's one way of looking at it. This where are our own viewpoint comes in. Because I did not read it like that at all.

What was his choice of HEADLINE?

I read what you read but don't take it the way you do.
Nor do I. Especially when considered in the context of the adjoining sub heading that Larry conveniently left off: "There is a double standard: White terrorists are dealt with as lone wolves, Islamists are existential threats "
Considering the title and subtitle, and then reading the piece, I take it as lets hope it's not another Islamic terrorist because that would likely escalate the hate many have the for Islamists and lead to more war and the needless killing of innocents on both sides. Were it one of our own, we wouldn't start bombing our own. Pretty clear if one is willing to open their minds and eyes and be honest about our situation. It isn't about hating our country. It is about hating some of the decisions our country makes and hating the innocent lives being stolen and hating the HUGE cost and consequential debt such poor decisions have and continue to create for our country. But, when one wears the blinders of the right wing extreme, one is either unable to see those truths or unwilling to comprehend those truths.

It is fine to dispute the issue of how we react to terrorism. But that is a whole different topic than the one YOU started, bemoaning your opinion that the writer HOPED (emphasis added by you) it was an angry white guy that did the evil deed in Boston.

Chechnya is located in the southeastern part of Europe in the North Caucasus mountains. Some of the residents aren't white.

Really. I'm more concerned that they were part of a sleeper cell. To me that would make the most sense. I do not believe they acted alone.

As long as they aren't a bunch of jingoists, shouting USA, USA. With the right beep to it; USA, USA, USA, is music to my ears. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGiYEWRzTik
