The only time my intelligence was tested was during Junior High, and I scored at the 92nd percentile (on a test for adults). I've never claimed to be the most intelligent person, but I'm certainly not the stupidest either.
I do have a background in advertising though, so if my words are more effective or persuasive somehow, I can only say thank you, I had no idea I was so effectual but I do have a background in this.

What a crock! But...I am used to this form of thinking/acting in my own household. Two of my kids are quite adept at this type of psychological warfare.
Just because you are capable of veiling it, doesn't mean people don't see it or feel it...and in essence you are breaking the rules just as much as TV, just not so overtly.
Bring your nose down just a notch before fall when the rains start, I would hate to see someone as intelligent as yourself drown.
Another bingo!

I disagree. No one is SOLELY the problem. YOU are just as guilty as he, IMO, if not more. And there are others, as well.
I often, but not always, agree with tvguy. I just don't think in his tone or language.

I watch y'all as someone who doesn't know either of you, personally. Just commenting on what I see here.
Granted I have met tvguy, but that is recent ( at least knowing he was tvguy).
Y'all's behavior isn't. Recent, that is.

I see quite a bit of difference in our approach. And if a majority of TV's posts weren't direct attacks on other members, he would likely hear little from me.
You are not telling the truth.
Some of your comments about gun enthusiasts were over the top and just as disrespectful as any cuss words or silly made up names.
Your reference to fishers and hunters as "tortureres" is offensive and disrepsectful.
In my opinion you, as well as Leonard, TV, CSRowen, Scrapper and I, are part of the problem.
And until you have the fortitude to admit that and change, you will remain part of the problem. A big part, I might add.
Mostly agree except for maybe CSRowan but I don't visit as often as I used to so not sure.

Yes, there has been less "explosive" (read...profanity, name-calling) since tv was banned...but the psychological stuff is still there, people are still belittled in a way that won't get the offender so much as a slap on the pinky.
Same shit, different method of delivery...
tv is at least up front about his crap, rather than veiling it.
He's an in-your-face instead of in-your-head type of person.
Really...who is doing more damage to you, someone who calls you a name outright or swears at you or someone who makes you feel small and stupid? Ask yourself, you may be surprised with your answer if you really stop and think about it.
As long as no one "outs" anyone else, or doesn't make them feel like they (or someone else) could possibly be in physical danger, who really cares?

Me, for one. The people who have a large ignore list because of all the fighting, for another. I'd assume that some of the people who join and never post, or only post a few times and stop might care. Some of the people who never joined probably care.

To be honest, I've seen Ponder post just as baiting remarks, evoking TV's name that seemed designed to provoke. So, it cannot be just TV.

He can at times use an incredible in your face but subtle approach, all at once. I find it interesting. Perhaps I just don't take it seriously.
TeeVee is missed. He is too intelligent to need to use invectives toward others, that is to say it isn't necessary. Attack the idea not the person, well as much as one can.
Here's the thing about TV. You don't have to agree with him. But he does have an aggressive style. And here's where the Tango-ing comes in. If you respond to the style and not substance, he will take you on. If you come back logically and respectfully he usually will do so in kind. To YOU. So in other words he makes a blanket judgement statement and people get all riled up, come in swinging and off we go. I learned a long time ago that posting with TV is like having a dance partner. You can have meaningful, enlightening debate and discussion with TV if just learn to dance with him. Or do forum Aikido, (which is non aggressive) or some other such thing. That's where it is the posters responsibility, because it's never failed for me. If I am reactionary, it's a flame war. If I post reasonably and rationally, he replies to me the same even if he strongly disagrees. And the truth is, I am here for discussion not flaming, so that part is my responsibility.

I'm not going to say it is, but I suspect you reacted to him. Which is what he seems to get going on. Everytime I've kept my cool and kept emotions out of it, he's been quite civil to me. He used to do the same thing to me. I'm not excusing his behavior. I'm just responding to the "Tango" theory.

Yep, the alligator is at the door.
This topic is all about TVg and what a bad actor he has been.
Then, you will notice, post after post of rather snarky comments that are mean spirited, proving that it was not only TVg who was stirring the stuff here.
It's true Jan: TVg was pushing the envelope, by most accounts. We seem to be grouped in little clusters of "like personalities", and TVg was targeted long ago. Should he come back early? I don't have a vote. TVg and I have had some differences, but always worked through them. He does have a keen sense of humor and that helps. I hope he returns soon and I look forward to exchanges with him.
We are flawed, all, and we are tying to "find our better selves". Some, having long ago found their better selves are pious and self promoting. Others, with little or no sense of irony and little if any appreciation of humor, are sensitive beyond understanding. Others, with no sense of responsibility, us this platform for attacks, sometimes vicious, and start a flame war that goes on forever.
the alligator is knocking.
Don't open the door.

Maybe no one has ever said those exact words, but there are certainly a few who give that impression.
