Sorry Clete, but there is a chance we are genetically linked. All too often I fall to that trap. I start the day with good stuff, and somewhere into the evening my resolve weakens and I head for the cookies. And in my case, it's REALLY stupid...suffer from some "digestive issues" and must be disciplined about my diet. What can I say...I'm weak. AND stupid.
About oatmeal: Mrs. Wonky makes a really great baked oatmeal that she serves up from time to time. I could eat it every day. Not sure of the ingredients, but think it has some apple of other good stuff. (I should ask).
Had to give up grapefruit (something to do with interactions with meds I take) and so start the day with two kiwi. I like 'em, but it's a problem getting them to the right ripeness. Tried putting them in a paper bag with a banana...no real help. Anyone have any suggestions?
I don't think you can speed the process up. I buy way ahead and put them on the window sill until they reach their peak and then move them to the fridge or eat them. (same for all our tomato, pear, kiwi etc)

It's simple Wonky. Just nail your kiwis over the kitchen door during a full moon with copper nails . Wait 11 days but do not walk under them or they will sour.
Then they must be removed by a red headed virgin and placed in basil leaves for 16 hours. At this point they will be ripe but you can only eat them with chop sticks and Ritz crackers.

I usually forgo breakfast altogether and opt for some kind of "bar" while at work.

Since I was on antibiotics for over two weeks, they said to eat plenty of probiotic type foods. Since yogurt is always in the house I just eat that, but we usually buy the sweet kind so the kids will like it. The Doc said my blood sugar is slightly higher than normal so I'm cutting out all unnecessary sugar and empty carbs so I bought this Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Vanilla Greek nonfat yogurt. If you eat yogurt and haven't tried this I highly recommend you do. It's sweetened with Stevia Leaf Extract not chemical sweeteners and try as I might, I can't taste any funny aftertaste you often get with sugar free foods.
Breakfast? Grapes, strawberry, & banana topped with yogurt.

Kefir is good too. This one has sugar in it, but just barely. You can hardly taste it. It's just barely sweet at all.
Plain unsweetened yogurt is available in most grocery stores but sometimes you have to hunt for it. I hate the stuff but manage to choke down 3 teaspoons a day for "probiotic reasons". The Triple Zero should work.
Food For Less has unsweetened goats milk that's supposed to be good for building up good gut bugs. I'm not man enough to drink the stuff.
Yes...check out the Kefir: LOT'S of sugar.
Good luck. Important to get the gut bugs back and working.

We used to get goat milk from a lady who treated and fed her goats better than most people. I remember pouring a glass for Friends who didn't like goat milk.
But they drank it and never knew it was goats milk I think the taste has a lot to do with cleanliness and the goats diet.
