Cold Case
#1
After I left to join the military in 1980, my mother told me of a murder that happened up by Squaw Lake. A family or a couple camping were murdered, so she told me, and it was never solved.
Does anyone know anything about this case?

I wonder if you're thinking of the Cowden family murder in 1974: http://www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2012/...stery.html

Quite possibly, as many details sound similar to what I had heard. Except for the date. I was under the impression that this had happened after I left.

I often find unsolved crimes of this sort intriguing. Are there others in our area?

Wow! I lived here back then. I don't remember this murder, although the name sounds so familiar, Probably because I was 19 at the time and absorbed in other things besides the news. How horrible!

There are so many cold cases where you just wonder: What happened?? These people. The bike path murders. (because there are at least two unsolved cases I know of, one in Ashland, one in Central Point. People who disappeared from camp sites. And lots of kids who said they were going to commit suicide, left and haven't been heard from. Really sad.

The last Bike Path Murder here in Ashland really freaked me out. I hope they find whoever did it someday.

Know this. The minute they find him Ann Rule will have a book out about him. (Yes, him. The odds on 99% its a screwed up man. Screwed up by his mother. Laughing )

It definite happened before 1980. I'm nearly positive ponders link and the date are accurate.

It wasn't at Squaw lake, it was near Copper like the link says

I moved here in 1979 and I camped and fished in the same spot. My wife and I thought it was awesome that virtually no one else camped up there.
We found out later when some locals told us about the Cowdens and that we were nuts to camp thereLaughing
