Homes Evacuated near Glendale

At 8:00 a.m. today, Oregon Department of Forestry Team 2 (Sifford), assumed command of the Douglas Complex. The Douglas Complex started Friday morning, July 26, 2013, after 54 fires were ignited by lightning on lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association. It is estimated that about 7,500 acres have been burned between all the fires. A majority of the fires in the Douglas Complex are located in the Cow Creek Canyon west of Glendale. In addition, a handful of fires in the Milo area are included in the Complex. The total number of fires is expected to decrease as several fires in close proximity to each other have burned together.

Evacuations have begun west of McCullough Creek, in the Glendale area. At this time, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is evacuating all homes west of McCullough Creek Road to Reuben. Residents east of McCullough Creek Road to the mill west of Glendale are being asked to prepare for potential evacuation. This means residents are warned that should conditions worsen, they also will be asked to evacuate.

It really looks like it's getting closer. Wish I knew exactly where all that smoke was coming from.

I wonder how long they'll keep flying. Still hearing them.

Until they can't see any more, usually.

Are you getting a lot of smoke where you are, Ponder? It's awful where I'm at. Not sure if it's coming from the north or the west but it's thick. My eyes are beginning to burn pretty bad. I can't imagine living near the actual fire. I feel so bad for all the evacuee's and send out good thought's to all the fire fighter's that they stay safe.

Not particularly bad where I'm at. I went to Grants Pass Saturday morning and saw smoke from about Glendale south, and it all seemed to be coming from the west side of the freeway (and, I live quite a few miles east instead). Thanks for asking though.

What a difference a nite makes! The smoke was overwhelming last nite. This morning....almost nothing. I see blue sky! I haven't gotten a fire update, yet, but I don't feel as anxious. Hopefully, no homes were lost.

It always seems to be better in the morning due to the inversion lifting. Afternoons are the worst. =(

No structures lost (so far), according to the Oregonian less than an hour ago: http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northw...cart_river

Yep. It'll probably get worse as the day goes on.

Yup, that's the forecast, for it to get bad again this afternoon.
Hopefully this link will work, as the page gives a comprehensive update on the many fires around us.
