The village of Karesuando, right at the very northern tip of Sweden, clocked the epic cold temperature during Sunday reports the Swedish weather agency SMHI.

"It is also a seasonal record," said SMHI meteorologist Lars Unnerstad to the TT news agency. The recorded temperature of -41.2 was a record for that region which is right on the Finnish border.

All well and good Chuck, but many (most) of us live in the beautiful Rogue Valley in the wonderful State of Jefferson.

And we too, appear to be in for a dry year, starting NOW, right here in the what we usually expect as the wet season. We read that the state forest service is warning of winter fires.

Begging the question: What can we do (each individual citizen) to help with this problem.

Rain barrels?
Reducing lawn areas and watering only to keep turf alive (if brown)?
Sending "the old woman" to Idaho to visit her sister to reduce bath water consumption?
Stop bathing the dog. And cat?
Drinking more beer and less water?

Seriously, we expect our local, state and federal agencies to start preparing for this dry season, but do we citizens have responsibilities too?

PS: I got a PM from Cletus recently in which he stated he hopes to train the deer who hang around his place to urinate on his lettuce so he won't have to water it. When I pointed out that deer eat the lettuce he called me a spoil sport and said he has removed me from his Christmas card list. A joke, because Clete don't got no X-mas card list.

Really: This is serious stuff and come July we are going to be thinking a lot about it. (Except Clete: He will be in some south sea island )

Rain barrels? It aint raining doofus But seriously do what I do. Wait till the neighbor leaves and run a hose over to his spigot.THEN fill rain barrels plus an Olympic size pool.
