Quote:All Americans heard about in January was the extreme cold and the repeated intrusion of the polar vortex. But the weather in the eastern U.S. deviated from much of the rest of the planet. Overall, NOAA reports, the global temperature in January was the warmest since 2007 and the 4th warmest on record, dating back to 1880.

It's like pulling down on a Mobile,

You tug down on one spot and the whole thing jumps up and down all over.

We will not live long enough to see the weather stabilize to a new relatively quit equilibrium.

Like the weather has ever been stable.

Weather, to use your word, is unstable. Always has been. Always will be.

The concern when we get past the weather forecast is CLIMATE. Now that's a whole different ball game and when climate has changed (big rocks hitting the planet for instance) weather gets real screwy.

The factor we now face that we have never had to deal with before is billions of people on the globe. And we are all using products that mess with the climate and will screw around with weather.

Unless of course you are a diciple of Rush or his ranting cousins on AM Radio who encourage us to carry on as usual. Ignorance is bliss.

So yeah, weather is a concern. But Climate change is a critical fact we should be very serious about.

Tornado's? Tornado's? Who cares!
I left the cover off my Weber BBQ and this damn Southern Oregon rainstorm soaked it. Now it's not all shinny. Sad

Possible 90's by Thursday? No thank you. Extreme fluctations are hard on the system! A nice mid 80's will be fine.

I like the "idea" of 90 degrees on May 1st. Makes me want to get a head start on planting some veggies.

Yes, I think I'm about ready to plant some of the less hardy plants in the next couple of weeks.

Quote:Atlantic hurricane season begins Sunday: Will record streak without major hurricane landfall end?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capi...icane-end/

Quote:Since the hyper-active 2005 season, the U.S. has had just six Category 1 and 2 hurricane landfalls: Humberto (TX), Ike (TX), Gustav (LA), Dolly (TX), Irene (NC), and Isaac (LA). Sandy was not technically a hurricane at its NJ landfall, and if it were, it would have been a Category 1 storm.
......

Such a streak, or “drought”, is unprecendented going back to 1900. As of the start of this hurricane season, the span will be 3,142 days since the last U.S. major hurricane landfall. The previous longest span is about 2½ years shorter!

Yep I can't deny the warmest month in 130ish years. I thought the earth was 4.5 billion yo. If it was the warmest in 6500 years I might worry a bit more

If only we had hard data for temperature from 6500 years ago.
We can only make educated guess based on tree rings, evaporation deposits left on rock, ice core records ...

When I compare the two graphs I noticed one says 'Temperature' the other says 'Average temperature' , not the same thing ay all.

One of them might more accurately reflect real data.
