How do you know that's true? I've never met anyone who could not play no matter how hard they tried.
I think it's something people who just never tried hard enough like to say
I don't doubt some people have an aptitude for it and others don't. But that doesn't mean those who don't can't ever play or learn. I think it just means they have to try harder.
My thoughts on this are because I've heard people all my life say they could never play. And I've never heard anyone who practiced a lot and actually tried say that.
I don't think you get what I'm saying, TV. I could learn. Sure. Like learning to type. Or write. That doesn't mean I'd be good at it. It doesn't mean I could think musically. It doesn't mean I could compose creatively or theoretically. Memorize chords or notes or whatever? Sure, that's just muscle memory. That's not aptitude. Know what I mean? I think anyone could learn to play upside down or backwards or whatever, given enough time or determination or practice. But here's my guess: If you have musical aptitude, it would be more natural, more intuitive, and not such a slog. Just my thought about it. Like math. I can't do it. I can memorize formulas and equations, but I don't 'get' it.
I get what you're saying exactl.y I'm pretty much saying the same thing. I hate for people to think they can't play music when they actualy can. But they think you have to. Be gifted....you dont .
Well then, it's kinda like singing. Anyone can do it, but you wouldn't PAY most people to do it for you. Only the "gifted".....
I don't think It's like singing at all. IMO the ability to sing well is a something mostly physical.
I've been singing my whole life and I still suck at it. But a lot of songs I play I pretty much have to sing to make it work.
But the more I practice guitar the better I get.
But is that being musical? Don't you think it's muscle memory? And you're mechanical too. More of a right brain thinker. I'm not sure...I think there is a kind of brain for music like there is for math or mechanics, or computers, none of which I am good at. Like I said, I could memorize equations and functions but I don't think I would ever get past rudimentary understanding of it.
