Probiotics:

Anyone here know anything about this stuff?

The bit of research on The Web I've done is kind of "well, try 'em and see what happens, but there is not a lot of science to support them".

I do eat plain non sweetened yogurt (But can only stand one tablespoon a day).

Old guts are a pain in the ass! (So to speak)

The "Pro biotics" in yogurts are an upselling of an old product. Any yogurt with live cultures will do. I don't think I have more information about them....but I love Zoi Greek yogurt. I get the non fat, simply to be weight concious, but they sell a whole fat one that rocks. Add fruit or jam or honey. Yes, probiotics are good for the gut.

Thanks Big Fella. Im not familiar with Dr. OZ, but will read it completely later. I tend to be more informed by science based sites, things that have been published and peer reviewed. But, this is a good start and I'll read it.

Yes, I take them and they have helped me with some "issues"

Yogurt is one choice, but I don't think 1 tablespoon a day is going to cut it.

I have had better luck with some over others and my favorite is:

I found I can get away with taking 1/day maintenance dose, starting out though, the 2/day dose is a good idea and I would space it out, not 2 at once. I buy locally, you will definitely pay more then online sources but because they require refrigeration I like to be able to buy them direct from refrigeration rather than wondering if they have been sitting on a hot Amazon warehouse shelf somewhere killing the cultures.

I have also used these before with ok results, but I still prefer the Solaray.

And of course none of these are magic bullets and your issues will vanish after taking one, find a quality product you like and stay the course.

Web MD has been my choice for information for years. I like the way it is set up and the search engine works well. I mentioned Dr Oz just a little in jest as he is the reigning king of TV docs, but the website I provided did have some helpful info that I wasn't aware of concerning probiotics. One was the number of different helpful bacterias and two, the many foods besides yogurt you can find them.

Almost 3 months now.

I tried several brands.

I don't think any of them are worth much.

I had some left and gave them to the cat. It's just a regular cat. Smiling

I've seen it at several stores in dairy cases or health food sections. Try it, Wonky. Yummy and a nice change from yogurt) Are you referring to something more concentrated, such as a supplement.

Totally unfamiliar with Kefir but I'll try it. About a year ago my digestive system went south on me and "the medical community" has yet to explain it.

I eat plain non fat yogurt(Nancy s brand) every morning. I add walnuts, craisans, granola and honey. If you don't like plain yogurt try putting something in it that is also healthy. My cat really likes it, the yogurt that is not all the other stuff except the honey.
