A Power Tool I Gotta Have!

Not sure what I'm going to make with it, but this is just too cool to not have.

I have basic tools, but I am not a builder or creative that way. So I hire people with cool tools and I'm glad I do. Some my past carpenter projects were not that good.  Smiling

$1500 now. In a couple years it will be $699. Then Harbor freight will have one for $200, Soon after I'll find a used on for $50 bucks and trade some weed for it and get it for nothing. Big Grin

I suspect you are right.  Laughing. But you gotta admit is a seductive little tool that any tool guy would love to include in his box. For instance, my hand is not as steady as it once was so I could get you to draw a pattern for me and cut out a perfect job. Not sure what I'd make, but...

Sounds familiar. I used to have to take classes to be up to date on new equipment. Splicing fiber optics etc.
Programmable logic and some of that stuff you HAVE to keep up or you get lost.
I had to program all of the lights at Amy's kitchen. The instruction book was like a novel. Blink
I found a quiet spot and spent a couple of hours reading the damn thing.
Then I called the companies tech rep and had him walk me through the entire process. Razz Razz

And you thought we, laymen, would have known that.

I thought what? I didn't mention CNC.  Someone else did.  You asked a question, i answered it.

Lathes, Milling machines, moulders, tennoners, have all gone computerized.  They have a specialized computer language. Parts are drawn in a CAD format (Computer Aided Design) and sent to a conversion program (CAM = Computer Aided Machining) that all CNC machines can read to machine parts to microscopic specs.

This is not meant to talk "down" to any layman.  I am just explaining the procedure.

Was that PLC using ladder logic?

Probably, relay logic and vacuum tubes,

I guess so. I didn't have to figure too much out. I just followed the guys destruction's. But after it was all said and done I pretty much understood it a lot better.
This thing was just a time clock on steroids.

Sounds pretty complicated, and fun, but not at all related to CNC Machining.

Sorry to break the flow of the Topic, but need to apologize to Hugo. Once again, I missed the author, and now realize it was CUZZ who posted the CNC and I should not have directed the post to you.
Sorry 'bout that. I admit to having problems following the flow of the posts as they continue along. I'l try to pay more attention.

Now, back to the continuing conversation.

Not so different. Just different languages controlling a microprocessor to affect a physical output.

CNC is kind of the precursor to 3D printing.
