They may not, but it's not cruelty. On the other hand I've met owners at work who told me their dog was at home in a crate. I think THAT'S cruel.
That's the biggest reason people use crates. I don't think it's cruel. Dogs are 100 time more adaptive than humans.And tougher.
If you think that's cruel then so is the way sled dogs are kept and raised.
And those guys love their dogs.
Well, the dogs seem to love it, from what I know. Huskies and malamutes and the like seem to thrive on it. But my knowledge of it is a bit limited.
IMO 10 hours in a crate with no where to relive themselves is pushing it. But if the dogs and owners have this down as far as when the dogs eat and when they crap or pee then I supposed it's all good.

I can see a situation where it was either that or get rid of the dog. And if I couldn't find a good home then I would try it. Maybe, I guess IDK
But I think a dog would have to be crate trained while they are young.
