In the sixth month of Donald Trump’s presidency, we are witnessing an unprecedented meltdown of much of the media. Standards have been tossed overboard in a frenzy to bring down the president.

Trump, like all presidents, deserves coverage that is skeptical and tough, but also fair. That’s not what he’s getting.

What started as bias against him has become a cancer that is consuming the best and brightest. In rough biblical justice, media attempts to destroy the president are boomeranging and leaving their reputations in tatters.

He accuses them of publishing fake news, and they respond with such blind hatred that they end up publishing fake news. That’ll show him.

CNN is suffering an especially bad case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, even trying to make a virtue of its hostility to the president. In doing so, executives conveniently confuse animus with professional skepticism, and cite growing audiences as proof of their good judgment.

The bottom line matters, and there is certainly an audience for hating Trump all the time. But facts and fairness separate major news organizations from any other business looking to make a buck, and a commitment to them creates credibility and public trust.

That’s how CNN sold itself for years — boring but trustworthy. Now it’s boring and untrustworthy.

Good read? Maybe. Do you log onto nypost.com often? It's known as a sensational rag, a classic example of "yellow journalism" and it's main attraction to folks in the Five Boroughs is it's sports page which is the one highly regarded section of the paper. 

But, like even the most biased of reporting, this one has at least a bit of truth in it. "The Left" is getting almost rabid in their coverage of this presidency. Strange, because Mr. Trump needs so little help in exposing himself as unprepared and incompetent. It might be best if the press simple left Mr. Trump to his Twitting and allowed his own commentary to speak for it's self. We can at least be thankful he appointed a Secretary of State and a Secretary of Defense who does not embarrass the nation. 

And yes...CNN is fast becoming just another sensational outlet that all too often panders to The Left. So? Don't watch it. Or Fox News. We have options.

On Thursday, 11 days later, the network retracted the story after being told the Trump supporter never served in the SEALs or in Vietnam, much less earned commendations for his service.
In the segment, John Garafalo said he served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy SEAL team. Fox News reported that he also received two Purple Hearts and about two dozen other medals for his service.
The man’s claimed record turned out to be a fabrication. It was first discovered by former Navy SEALs. Both these SEALs and family members of Garofalo contacted Fox News about the story, according to the Navy Times.

Don Shipley, a retired SEAL, told the Navy Times that he contacted Fox on Oct. 9, the day after the story ran.

But the story was still on the news outlets Facebook page on Oct. 19. By then it had amassed 1.5 million views.

One reason that so many on social media find his plausible is that Avenatti did make his Twitter account PRIVATE this morning. I noticed it myself. It’s been private all day.
