"Obama Care"...Alive and kicking

No doubt Mr. Trump and the GOP congress will do all they can to change the Affordable Care Act to somthing controlled by the insurance companies, with little oversight by "we, the people".

Maybe not so fast. This, from todays NYT (12/22) may suggest there will be a bump in the road and the ACA will survive in some form. There is not doubt the ACA is plagued with problems, but a government that truly cares about the welfare of it's people could fix this.

Health Plan Sign-Ups Rise Even as G.O.P. Plans Its Repeal
By ROBERT PEAR
  • The Obama administration said 6.4 million people had signed up for insurance for 2017 so far, despite the program’s uncertain future.

  • The new sign-ups — an increase of 400,000 over a similar point last year — may undermine the argument that the law is in free fall.

His report that it's fake news, is fake news in itself. No link to contradictory information. Just his word, which hasn't been to reliable (actually it's very lie-able)

Really! This "fake news" thing is getting to be like a snake eating it's tail.

And something that should be noted: ALL news agencies make mistakes. Sometimes, more than mistakes, they have rogue reporters who go off the reservation. Jason Blair, of the NYT wrote stories that he claimed to investigate but it was found he never left his desk. Yes, they were published. Yes, they were retracted and he was fired.

And it get even more difficult to fret out reality. Judith Miller, also of the NYT reported that Iraq DEFINITELY had WMD. She was given this information by a "highly placed official" in Dick Cheney's office (Scooter Libby) who insisted that an informant (Curve Ball) had informaton absolutely reliable. She reported it and the irony is that the Bush administration used the NYT as "the source" to prove the fact.  Laughing . (Want details? Read Tom Rick's book, FIASCO.)

So, in this new world of the information age, we must be vigilante in seeking the news we can trust. As Mr. Reagan told us, "Trust but verify".

I wonder if we can get back to SFlib's initial post about "Fake News".

He still has not replied to my suggestion that he provide some proof of his charge.

The charge of "Fake News" is serious and is watering down real information we depend on.

We are entering a new and different national experience with a president  who's behavior is unlike that of any in modern history. Good reliable informaton is going to be critiical to how we respond to the actions of this administration.

What the few of us here at the RVF do with that information (news) may not to seem to matter much, but understanding we are a part of the whole is a reality that should make us sober and feel the responsibilities of citizenship.

SFlib, you have been posting simplistic "one liners" here for as long as you have been active. Your activity is distracting,
and worse, clouds the dialog of this good space by making it necessary to point out your fabrications.

Put up, or shut up, please. Your "ranting" is tiresome and to some extent you contribute to the distraction of the exchanges here that poison the positions of otherwise important topics.

Isn't fake news, like bearing false witness.
It goes against God's law.
I suspect OL and SFLIP aren't very God fearing anyway.

Just how early in the day do you start drinking?

God's law?  "False witness"?

This is a real, down to earth, problem that could "sink our ship of state". As others have pointed out here, we've had "fake news" since news started being reported. We now live in a very different time with the "24 hour news cycle" and stuff that can travel around the globe in minutes. Bad information can cause serious outcomes and effect lives in very real ways.

God's law has little to do with it. Native intelligence, the ability to parse reality from garbage, and a common sense objectivity is more important, in this case, than God's law.

PS: And, OL and SFlib may very well be God fearing! They seem to also fear real information reported from good and reliable sources with historical records.

It would fit him like a glove.  Anyone who thinks Obamacare has been a success is wearing one of those blinders.  All I have to do is look at my insurance statement before Obamacare and after was forced on us by the dems to know how well it is working.  My premiums have skyrocketed as have my deductable.  We have had to change carriers and doctors three times since this monstrosity was forced upon us.  Apparently Wonky doesn't know that of the 23 state healthcare insurance exchanges that were created only 7 remain.  The rest went broke.  As the saying goes, "The problem with socialism is that sinner or later you run of other peoples money."  The closing of all those exchanges proves that point.  And his news source The New York Times that he calls "good and reliable sources with historical records"?  Wonky must live in an alternate universe if he thinks of the NYT that way.  It's a liberal propaganda outlet that is on it's way to bankruptcy.  They are in the process of vacating 8 floors of the building they occupy and those employees are looking at pink slips.  Good, and good riddance.  Hopefully a new unbiased and honest publication will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes when they finally go toes up.  Can't happen soon enough.

I went to a Christmas gathering last week, all walks of life from retired seniors to young families with kids and the topic of the ACA came up. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE in the group was happy with this travesty. This was a group of 30+ people and every single one of them has their story of just how badly they are being screwed or finally just said to hell with it and have no insurance at all. The working middle class families are the hardest hit.
It's a good deal if you qualify for your free shit, the millions of us that fall outside that category are being raked over the coals.

My money says a couple people started ranting about hating Obama care and others joined in. At that point do you really think anyone who was happy with it would speak up?

I'm not agreeing with Obama care being fair. I'm finding it VERY hard to believe that at a Christmas gathering EVERY SINGLE PERSON told their story.

Well, you would be wrong. We were all seated at a set of long ass banquet tables and every adult at the table told their story. I purposely took note and watched the conversation unfold, everyone spoke up at one point or another, myself included.  (30 + people, included spouses so, 15 stories, not so hard to believe)

It would fit him like a glove.  Anyone who thinks Obamacare has been a success is wearing one of those blinders.  All I have to do is look at my insurance statement before Obamacare and after was forced on us by the dems to know how well it is working.  My premiums have skyrocketed as have my deductable.  We have had to chance carriers and doctors three times since this monstrosity was forced upon us.

OK then you go to boring ass Christmas parties LOL. Anyway 15 couples is the real number and that's easier to believe.

And... they're all most likely GPn's ilk.  So... not surprising at all.  Rolling Eyes
