Has I recall, when I replaced a door. The springs were a challenge.

I'm gonna pay the extra for pro install. I don't shy away from projects usually but some things i just dont want to mess with and I'm not messing with those springs of carnage.

I was wondering about that. Good call I think Did your old one have the sensors on each side that stops the motor if something is in the way?
I've wired those things and supplied power to dozens of those.
But unless it's a huge savings I would just have it done by a door company.

Huh?? Yes, I have an electric opener. No I am not against it. I have never heard of an overhead door without springs, unless you can dead lift a couple hundred pounds springs are required.

WTH do I know? Not much!  The only electric door I had was in a rental in GP and I didn't notice any springs. It was a SEARS one that looked like this.

Yes, and you will notice on the picture at the top of the door, "torsion springs". Most people don't think of them until one breaks and your door won't open.

And if you don't know what you are doing they can put a world of hurt on you in the blink of an eye.

That would be an extension spring. Whether you have torsion or extension both are under serious tension.

That's what I thought. I was sure I remembered those torsion springs on electric doors and I even went and tried to find a picture like you did LOL.They ALL have springs
 I think without them the motor would have to be huge.
