Charles Manson to a lot of people is a misunderstood mystic and philosopher.  He has a huge following.  If you look around on Youtube, you can find some of his worshipers.  They are deluded but they are out there. The Spahn ranch and Barstow ranch places are hallowed ground frequented by his lame-o devotees who more enamored with his cache than  his actual deeds. Even during the trial there was a press element that glorified him as a counter culture guru of sorts.

Vincent Bugliosi made his Helter Skelter theory famous,  he won an unlikely conviction with it, but I don't think it accurately portrays Manson. I think it helped to mythologize him as this kind of ultimate evil of crime. Satan incarnate; but if you read about Manson, you find out that really he was just a two bit hood and con man who figured out a way to manipulate susceptible people. With LSD which can really help the process on the way.   His story is a story of perfect opportunity at a perfect time in history. What happened to Manson's victim's was evil, but I don't think Manson is some kind of super villain.  But his face and his name is the ultimate in summoning malevolent power and mayhem.    And he benefited from that notoriety all his life in prison. Maybe he wouldn't think so, because it isolated him ultimately; not because he was so bad, but because it made him a target. 

Susan Atkins is dead.
Charlie is next.
That leaves 3 other killers of the famous murders and who knows how many of the other less famous ones.

Hospital staff approached Manson’s private hospital room after they heard strange noises of banging and hollering at approximately 3:17 AM. When they arrived, they found him on the ground with a slit throat and 5 dead nurses in the room with him –  alongside him, a suicide note which read:
 “As I write this letter, I feel my soul rising to greatness. I am God, a great leader. These children that come at you with knives, they are your children. You taught them. I didn’t teach them. I just tried to help them stand up. But you will see, I am immortal. My body may lay here right now, but in less than 24 hours I will rise from the dead just like the great Lazarus, exactly like Jesus – because I am God!”
