AdBlock is a content filtering and ad blocking browser extension for the Google Chrome, Apple Safari (desktop and mobile) Firefox, Opera, and Microsoft Edge web browsers. AdBlock allows users to prevent page elements, such as advertisements, from being displayed. "

However, more and more websites are detecting the presence of Ad Block and refusing to load their content unless you disable it.

Enter "Brave." It is a new open source browser based on Goggle Chrome with Ad Blocking features built in. I downloaded it yesterday and it integrated almost effortlessly with my current Chrome settings, passwords, bookmakrs, etc...

I saw it and I thought I deleted the post.... anyway... all of that jibberish was an excerpt from Wikipedia about Ad Block.

In a nutshell... if you don't like ads slowing down or getting in the way of your web browsing, I recommend trying the Brave web browser. It can be found at brave.com. I'm using it and I love it.

Okay... I am officially raving about this browser. Anyone that doesn't look into it is a fool and a chump. Take it from someone that was using Netscape Navigator long before Firefox was around. I've used Opera, Safari, IE, and Chrome. I've accessed the internet directly from DOS. I seldom pitch for tech companies. But I am sold on the Brave browser.

End of pitch.

I will give Brave a look. I hate Chrome so a Chrome alternative is worth a look. I've been a Firefox user since its inception and ditto for ad blockers. My favorite adblocker for Firefox is ublock origin. I can't imagine anyone willingly using the internet with out an ad blocker.

Edit to add: I used Adblock plus for years....until Ublock came along, I think it's better.

I do. Adds don't seem to be an issue. Then again maybe I still have an ad blocker I don't know about. I don't get any pop ups at all. Seems to me in the past that's why I had ad blockers.

My computer as well as my wife's PC is full..LOL I mean there's hardly disc space left. My wife's PC is so full it won't even run the printer anymore.
The thing is.. I don't know what the hell is on these computers that is taking up all the space?

There is more to ads then just pop ups. It will even block youtube video ads.
For helluva it, I went to yahoo.com, Ublock blocked 13 blockable items upon loading. I disabled it, went back, and there was ads from Les Schwab, US Cell, etc, 3 auto running video ads. All that hogs resources big time and slows down your shit, especially if your connection speed is not the best.

When I look at a Youtube video there is an ad for the first 5 seconds then the video plays. That really doesn't bother me but I'll try using unblock just to see what happens. My computer is plugged up with something.. I have no clue what's using all of my space to I'm hesitant to add anything at all.

My son is a computer expert I just haven't got around to calling him.

Unblock.com is 50 bucks a year right? I don't need it that much LOL

no, its Ublock Origin, NOT unblock, and it's a free browser ad on.

ANd I can only speak towards the ad on for firefox, anything else you find, or something trying to charge you I cannot comment on.

and according to this, they are totally unrelated to ublock.org, so I would not go to that site......

I think I remember you saying recently you were still running Vista, XP?
Either way, you are running an unsupported, obsolete operating system. Which means your browsers will also suffer as updates become less and less compatible with your system, and likely not supported at all. Firefox pulled the plug on XP 2 years ago I think. Plus, your system with an operating system that old, is just OLD. Today's websites are so much more involved requiring far more resources and your old machine just cannot accommodate. It does not surprise me one bit it is running like an old dog, because IT IS!

I have an old XP machine that does get used very occasionally, I let the kids use it once in awhile. And thanks to ad block, etc, it can surf fairly well, however, it will not play youtube vids worth a shit, takes forever for the browser to even launch, yet there is nothing wrong w/ the machine, in 2004 it was state of the art, in 2019 it can't even get out of it's own way, same machine, new era.

Yes I have Vista and I know it's an unsupported, obsolete operating system. My PC and my browser has always been Mozilla Firefox. But it doesn't run like an old dog.
It works pretty damn well LOL.

Today's websites are so much more involved requiring far more resources and your old machine just cannot accommodate

But mine does accommodate. My wife's PC is Windows 7 and that the one that doesn't work right.
It has a pop up that says device storage is almost full.. It's drive C and I don't know what is stored in it??

In most cases almost everything on your PC will be on drive C or one of its sub-folders. Other drives are typically used for back-up or external storage, (such as a flash drive or a CD-rom)

Your best way to make space would be to use the Windows "Restore" feature to get the drive back to it's original, (new), state. The problem with this is that you would probably have to sit through tons of security updates... and that's only IF W7 is still supported. Your other option would be to use the Add/Remove feature in Control Panel and start deleting programs that you no longer use. This will cause it's own set of registry problems that can prove fatal to your machine. Finally, if you have a lot of pictures and videos on that drive, you could put them onto a flash drive and then delete them from C... this might keep you going for awhile.

As to why your C drive is full: New software takes up more space than old software. Its easier to fill older disk space because old machines came with less drive space had less storage AND older software took up less room. By trying to install modern software on an older PC, you will fill that drive fast.

One last thing and I'm not sure if this is still true. Windows used to use open drive space for RAM. If you were weak on RAM you could often get away as long as your drive was not too bloated.

For the record Win 7 is still widely used and is very good. Vista... not so much.

I can't because I don't have any restore dates.

I have done exactly that and I gained a little nut not much.

I did that. I uploaded all my pics to Photo bucket. My wife's pics are all on a flash drive. It barely made a difference.

As you might have guess I have googled and found a lot of people with the same problems I have. What you said above is EXACTLY right.
In other words there is no fix. Both mine and my wife PC are simply lacking in RAM. My wife's PC has 2 GB I have 3 GB

We are getting new PC's.. end of story LOL... Thanks Smiling
