If you bake it and don't add cabbage it doesn't stink up the house.
Or you can bbq it and presto, pastrami.

Nowadays we try to have a lamb-oriented dish. If it is as expensive as it's been for the last year or so, we may settle for those Irish bangers I mentioned.

Not sure why it's representative of "Irish" as the Irish don't cook it either.

I bookmarked that. He describes the how-to much better than I did, and I neglected to mention the rinsing part.
Thanks VS! PS I love fried and/or baked cabbage. Takes spicing really well.

Been there. Done that. Still gross.
The DH makes curried cabbage sometimes which is edible but I can live without it.
Tia, the story is that the Irish who migrated to NYC couldn't find decent 'bacon' which to us is more like ham, a la Canadian bacon. So their Jewish neighbors in the tenements introduced them to brisket, which became corned beef, which became an Irish-American dish.

I don't know which smells worse, cabbage while it's cooking or the house about an hour after everyone has eaten it. Eek!

Oh, we can't not have corned beef and cabbage on St. Pat's Day. My husband's mom is Irish-American from NYC and she raised those boys with various culinary traditions that cannot, will not be changed. I don't mind it once a year. But, when it's my turn to make it, I make it the Jewish way, with plain brisket and I season it myself. I can't take too much sodium. Cabbage never stinks up the house.. not sure why.

Corned beef was common fare in the nursing homes I worked in. Not because it was good for the patients. No, they choked on it. They were fed it, because Nursing Home owners are similar to Oregon's prison suppliers. They fed the patients shit, until Jerry Brown came along.

I had to have prime rib, instead. Poor me! Laughing Laughing

1 c. catsup
½ c. molasses
2 Tbs. soy sauce
2 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
¼ tsp. Garlic powder
1 tsp. Oregano

Mix and simmer.

Separate wings into 3 parts, discarding tips.
Put on a foil-lined cookie sheet in single layer in 375° oven.
Bake for 10 min.
Spoon bar-b-q sauce over chicken.
In about 20 min., turn and put more sauce on.
Bake total of 1 hour or until done.

Left over sauce is great over mashed potatoes, or even a slice of bread!
