Excerpt: "A credit union in southern Oregon reports a spike in new accounts that appears related to local Occupy Wall Street demonstrators urging people to move their money out of big banks that got federal bailouts.

Rogue Federal Credit Union President Gene Pelham told the Mail Tribune newspaper that the demonstrations "definitely have some sort of role in all of this."

Pellham says the thrift saw 1,000 new accounts at its seven branches from Sept. 1 to Oct. 15, when normally they would expect 700.

Demonstrators have been urging customers of Chase bank in Ashland to move their money to credit unions to protest big bank bailouts.

Carrie Nelson, assistant manager of the Ashland branch of Chase, says she can't comment on negative impacts from the demonstrations."
