Sorry but I think I've only commented on your objections to certain words a couple times. Once was when you said no lady would use a certain word.
And on this thread where you objected to the word sucks.
Anyway it's funny that you want me to stop doing what you are doing:wacko:
Sorry Wonk, none of it's a big deal to me. You can object all you want about the type of language you hear on this forum. I will still love to read your other posts, you make good points and you are very funny.
But the world is made up of all kinds and while you make like Prospero and Publius or Homer's Odyssey for their writing style. I may like Homey the clown or Homer Simpson Or ren and Stimpy, or Beevis and Butthead.
You are Korea I was Vietnam. WE my friend are from different times but we live in the same time.
And your point(s) are well taken.
I'd hate like hell to blow a good friendship over something like this. We will agree to disagree, but from time to time I will bring it up (when prompted by actual events) and you will react. And so it goes.
Your greater point is far more important. If I feel I can't "live here" I can always move. I really don't want it to come to that.
And around and around we go...

I never have liked a bully.
Nor do I. And I'm not fond of whimpy men who shout while hiding behind trees rather than coming into the open and dealing with things face on.
The issue was "language". I had an opinion that I expressed. You suggested I was guilty of "the same" myself. I ask you to look it up and you changed the subject.
I looked in the mirror. Saw an older gentleman, but still a man. Bully indeed! You may have isolated yourself for too long. Or not: Thought I'd take just one guess.

I thought that one was obvious, and I didn't have to rub your nose in it anymore. According to you we should avoid vulgar language, and you pointed out use of the word "suck". Yet in your next couple of posts, you used the words "damn" and "hell". Do you have a dictionary we can all use so we can agree on what words are now considered vulgar (after you all remained silent for years with "fuck you" and "cunt" being standard forum fare)? It certainly does matter around here who says what words, doesn't it.

The greater point is that what you may consider vulgar or wrong or whatever may not be so much or at all offensive to others, even those in your time zone . That's all I wanted to say or should have said. I don't remember what I said zactly cuz I turned 60 a couple days ago
Anyway I just got back form MURPHY, who said m :Medford sucks?

What a piece of work you are. If you don't understand the social differences between Damn and Hell as compared to the one's you listed (unnecessarily), then you might want to think about night school.

History, for what it's worth:
My first reply to BZ:
I love the place. Warts and all.
Figures lie. Liars figure. (Than you Harry)
Not many perfect places around. But, BZ your post valid stuff I guess. Just ain't gonna make me move. I won't move to Central Point because I don't trust a town that can't settle on one name. I won't move to Grant's Pass because sure as hell I'd be tempted to run for office, then impeached. I won't move up by Ponder because I don't have a truck with a gas tank big enough. I'd move in with Tia any damn place she lived, but she gets all picky and finicky about me being old and married.
Medford it is, for better or worse.
My 2nd response:
Yea, I always go to Central Point when I need a joint replacement.
Gold Hill is my choice when I feel like dressing for dinner at a place with linen, silver, and Crystal.
Shady Cove my spot for acts that can't bet booked at The Craterian.
Applegate Valley is my choice when I feel a sudden urge for a burrito.
Grants pass, "It's the weather" has perfect city government.
I really like Medford, and will accept it warts and all. And my comments above are not to in anyway disparage those locals...just a kind of comparison.
PS: When did "SUCKS" enter our lexicon as a standard adjective? (Clone, we need you now).
...And the response:
I am not sure when that word entered, but earlier than I thought. I read a memoir of Viet Nam Mash Nurse and she was using it.
My Response:
Whatever. To us "older folks" it sounds a bit harsh, owing to it's origins.
The response to the above:
I always hear that you are as old as you want to be, you are as young as you feel and all that. So quit wanting to be old and dating yourself.
People who use the term don't mean sucking dick. Women who cuss are not someone for you to look down on. I love ya man but sheesh get over it with the whining about they way people are and the way people talk and the way people post.
My Response:
Go to jail TVg. Don't pass GO, don't collect the money.
"Get over it with the whining"?
I have the option of making critical remarks. Sometimes I do, but I try to do it without coarse words in deference to anyone here who may be offended by it. I know for a fact that some will be offend by your remark above.
We have had personal face-to-face interaction, and you know full well that in that setting I'm "rude, crude, and socially unacceptable". I just know when and where to monitor myself.
Come on over TV, I'll whine in your face. But TV, you use words like those in the sentence above, following "people who use the term don't mean...." in front of my wife and you will have to deal with an angry older man. No so old, when all is said and done.
So, about "suck". Yea, I remember when Ross Peroit said NAFTA would cause a huge sucking sound if passed. It's all about context.
So what is the context here? I know the locker room remark, "suck this" and it's most often done with a gesture indicating location. The sucking sound of water down the drain? Sucking on a popsicle? A baby suckling?
I don't think so.
But do as you will. I'm fond of you also, and don't want to start a war that I can't win. (But, I could maybe shoot you in the butt before defeat)
And finally, I really like Medford Town, it was my choice to live here, and while I know that the knocks were legit, I just don't take kindly to folks saying my town sucks. Cause it's not going down the drain, we are not all holding popsicles, the few babies breast feeding make little, if any, noise, and NAFA has been in place a long time. That only leaves the other thing.
And remember that I own Park Place. You don't' want to spend the night there.
End of postings:
So, somebody find my "rant" here. I made a pretty mild remark about "suck".
And from there it went viral.
And I think it's a pretty fair example of what we do here.

What I said was not just about what you said "here" I was about your ongoing effort to try and tell others what is appropriate.
The fact that you didn't like the word suck "owing to it's origins" was just a reminder of other similar comments from you.
I wish I would have never said anything. My original meaning, something about wanting 1950 values for a 2012 internet forum is dating yourself was not meant to be offensive but I guess it was. OF COURSE you have every right to your opinions. I just don't think that there are as many as you think who care about the words you object to.
I know you want to make this a better place. I don't think this place is so bad just the way it is but sometimes I like the seedier side of town

Awwww...you really do love me...
Of course
Anyone notice how little was said about Medford?
I made a casual remark about "suck" and (as demonstrated above) things go crazy.
I will continue to make critical remarks when I feel it's appropriate. If you feel it is boring, simply ignore it.
"It is what it is" and we are who we are. And this is the stuff of debate. We should be able to do it without being personal.

Schmedford is pretty lame. And I say this coming from Grants Pass. As the 'big city' in the area Schmedford leaves lots to be desired. Confusing traffic patterns, gang violence, people parking in handicapped spaces without the proper placards, meth, overzealous sobriety testing, pretty lame downtown area and sprawl.
Still I really like southern Oregon as a whole. You wouldn't know it by reading this forum, but people are really very nice and friendly in person.. as long as politics is not the subject at hand.

That's funny because I've always hated the way Grants Pass is laid out as far as traffic.
I think it has been improved over the years.
Medford has two main arteries north and south , riverside and Central. Main street and 8th are east and west. Biddle kind of parallels 99 from CP to main st. What's confusing?
Gang violence? I've never actually even seen any

That's a Medford thing?

I have often felt GP has similar traffic patterns. Sometimes, when driving in GP I feel like I am in Medford but don't recognize anything. I agree our downtown has a long way to go. My feeling is that having the College in downtown is not good idea. We really need a Medford Campus for RCC but it's location is crazy. The parking issues created by it limit shopping in downtown, and limit what people can do because of it. There is no where to really move anywhere to, because the College really dominates the show down there. I think the college there limits the expansion of the area around main street into more interesting venues. We have the beautiful library and Vogel Park, and yet there's nowhere to go, and nothing to do. Having a college in that location should bring new activity and energy, but because the college itself has no outdoor 'campus' there is rarely any kind of college sponsored venue going on down there. I support RCC, but I feel it's current set up in this location is actually crippling the improvement of the area. Anyone feel similarly?

what shopping? There's more people at night eating and during than during the day.
